Description

From Saudi Arabia to Qatar. Very easy border crossing. Took us about 45 minutes in total. Saudi side: passport gate then customs gate. Both very quick.
Qatar side:
1. passport gate. We then had to go to the immigration office on the left side after the passport gate to get our visa. We got a free 90 days visa (italian passport).
2. customs gate. They asked for the Carnet de Passages and stamped it too. Customs check with dogs. Women have to go to a separate „ladies room“ at the end of the customs area to get their hand bags checked by a female police officer.
3. car insurance gate. We payed 175rial for 1 week.
At the moment no need to show a PCR test or covid certification.

Qatar -> KSA
They still don't want to stamp the Carnet on exit and say you don't need a stamp. There is only 2 booths to go through on the Qatari side, immigration and exit. No Customs check, so you'd have to ask for the the carnet stamp in the first booth. The Qatari side took 10min but getting the Carnet stamp was extra 45 min. We had to insist on being taken to the boss and then were finally driven to the trucks' side where one person had seen a Carnet before.
It's interesting as on the entry side, Customs asked for a Carnet and knew exactly how to fill it in.
Saudi side fast and no surprises.

Qatar --> KSA
We went through the gate "Other nationalities" and they gave us a paper with a qr code. Then we parked immediately on the left and went into the immigration building where they stamped our passports and gave us another paper. We asked for the stamp on the carnet de passages and they said "Go to last gate". No, they don't stamp it there, so you must find customs before going on. We were escorted by a police officer to the right place. When you're done you still have a paper with a Qr code, keep it for KSA.
Saudi side passport check first, then customs inspection and then insurance. Everything very fast and smooth.

Exiting Qatar, they still don't have anyone to stamp out the Carnet. So, ask at immigration, show them your carnet, tell them you need an exit stamp and they'll call someone to take you to the entry customs office to stamp it. So weird

KSA --> Qatar: 1,5 h in total
Saudi side faster (15 min), it took a while to process our car but no problems. They give you a ticket: keep it because you need it in Qatar.
If you don't have a visa for Qatar first follow the signs "Biometrics and visa". As Italians we got 90 days for free (they put a sticker in your passport and take fingerprints). They asked for an address and "caravan" was ok. Nobody asked for medical insurance.
At customs it took longer because of carnet and other paperwork. They did everything while we waited in our car. A quick visual check inside the vehicle and then we were sent to insurance. For 7 days we paid 165 QAR (3,5 ton Citroen Jumper).
There's a final gate where they collect a couple of papers and then you're free to go.

Easy boarder, took us 1.5h both directions.
Saudi side does not stamp carnet. Qatar side did stamp on import but first didn't want to stamp at export because not needed. We insisted and they stamped.
Insurance for Qatar mandatory and pretty expensive (for minimum period 7 days we paid 145 Rials (approx. 40 USD)

Super easy and quick crossing from KSA to Qatar. We are Canadian passport holders on motorcycles and received a free 30 day visa. We paid 45 Riyal per moto (about $12US) for 1 week of vehicle insurance. We didn’t pay for medical insurance, nor were we asked about it.

Fast at Saudi side, a bit slower on the Qatar side. Really friendly guys though. They'll ask for your medical insurance. We convinced them by showing our own medical insurance and the letter you need for Iran which states that it is covered worldwide. Otherwise medical insurance is 150 Qatar Rial per person. Car insurance is 130 Qatar Rial for one week (Nissan Patrol with rtt)

Update:
Leaving Qatar was a bit more complicated that entering.
Took us 2,5h in total.
We had to wait more than 2h at the qatari exit immigration office - it seems that they can‘t handle exiting tourist cars (some kind of problem with the registration).
You can exit with no problems - it just needs time. So be prepared of some waiting time.
