This is refugio 1 on the way to Balcon del Pissis. It's a bit full of stuff (table, chair...), but ok for a night with wind protection.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
As described before. Good overnight shelter, a little bit full of stuff, somethings were destroyed or stolen but it’s ok.
You can ask for water, there’s a lot of 4x4 tourists coming back from the balcon in the evening and there’s a lot of trucks and 4x4 from the mining. They gave me water, apples and coca, really nice people. It’s just like the ones in the pavement in Rn60
First refugio on the road towards the Balcon, exactly 25km in, the sign is right outside the door. Clean, but everything is covered in desert dust entering through every vent. Table, chairs, big plastic sheet/tarp, old foam mattress, fireplace, firewood, grass kindling, kettle, pot. Chest with emergency supplies. A minimal medkit - saline solution, sterile gauze, wound patch. There's contact numbers for emergency services on the wall and even a medevac stretcher, but I'm not sure how you're supposed to contact them without a satphone.
Somebody took all the water and most of the emergency food is shelf-stable dry stuff, grains etc - there's a tiny muddy stream outside but it's probably salty.
Unfortunately, somebody stole the green and red flags to mark occupancy for other people and emergency services and the door handle is broken on the inside, so be careful to not shut yourself in.
If you find something missing from the inventory, please report at the tourist office in Fiambalá and don't take any supplies if it's not a life-or-death situation!
Pretty well insulated despite looking all-metal- we didn't start the fire and slept well with just warm clothes (synthetic sweaters, biker jackets and such, nothing properly alpine), 5° sleeping bags and closed door (had to use my spanner in lieu of the broken handle), our water also didn't freeze despite it being -8° at dawn in early April.
