Description

*Road closed.
.....
You can reach this point only from north. It is not possible to continue to Cachi because parts of the road has been washed out by river and they told us it is not wide enough for cars. Motorbikes can do it, but need to be very careful.

Latest Check-Ins

the drive is feasable by motorbike but extremely dangerous and you really need to have major skills. surface of most of the road from the top to cachi is rocks, loose sand, mud and huge round rocks all over the road
Cant even believe i made it alive. dropped my moto 3 times
crashed. multiple river crossing with at least 1 foot + of water and loose ground. I would highly discourage anybody to try it unless looking for a life threatning experiencen lol

Report Check-In

Road is not passable by car right now. There is a red barrier at the top. We tried to go on anyways and after 3-4 very narrow sections and 45min drive after the summit (we have a nissan Navarra pickup with a cabin) we had to turn around due to a massive and deep gap in the road due to flooding. It will take at least a day to fill it up with rocks and shovels. Also no way around. There is a way around for motorbikes, but not with a car

Report Check-In

Mid march 24: road closed for vehicle after this point.
Turism office of San Antonio told us it’s only doable by motorbikes at this time of the year, even not for 4x4, we had to take road 51 instead

Report Check-In

We tried going to San Antonio from Cachi and close to La Poma run into 2 separate trucks that advised can't pass to San Antonio. The road is narrow, parts washed out and river too high. We had to turn around but the drive was very beautiful. Check in La Poma about the conditions before attempting.

Report Check-In

Road is open. (transitable). Police recommends to check in at La Poma and check out in S.A. de los Cobres or vice versa.

Report Check-In

Road is open. We drove the route from north to south with our 2WD Fiat Ducato (easier than the other way round). No problems! The road is currently in good condition, a few fords (partly icy) had to be crossed. Better always ask about the current road conditions, I think it can change quickly. The road is mostly single lane and in some places quite narrow, I think the vehicle should not be much bigger than a van.

Report Check-In

We traveled from North to South and didn't see any sign saying that the road is closed. We've done the pass on two endure bikes and we didn't find it particularly challenging (it's actually quite fun and with great views) but doing it north to south is definitely easier I would say. I am not sure I would attempt it on big bikes but that depends on your ability and confidence.
I also think it's doable on a good 4wd (we met a couple of cars going up) but it can be tricky for car in some points and some parts are narrow.
There are some river crossing but when we've done it they were small and easy to go through

Report Check-In

We traveled from south to north. The first part is under construction but no one prevented us from passing. We were 2 motorcycles. We met quite a few other bikers. No car. The track is overall good. Some river crossings that may seem impressive but nothing insurmountable on a motorcycle in our opinion. There are also some passages with sand. The landscape is really beautiful! Pay attention to attitude and temperatures.

Report Check-In

road is still marked as closed, but there are quite a few vehicles passing. we did it as well. it is pretty narrow sometimes and there are various river crossings. 4x4 definitely needed!!!! we have a small jeep (Suzuki Grand Nómade) with medium clearance and that was fine. But we met a pick-up 4x2 which got stuck in a river and a pick-up with cabin which had to turn around 'cause it was to wide.

Besides of some tricky parts (especially the river crossings) road is okay until good. Going from north to south is much easier than the way around.
Beautiful landscape!!!
