Wytheville Regional Visitor Center | Informal Campsite

We took a chance and stayed here for the night. We arrived too late to check in with the Visitor Center and just parked up.
It was a very nice quiet place.
We even had the town’s free wifi! I hope they allow overnights in the future, maybe from 9pm-8am. Would be perfect for small vans.

We pulled in with our van and asked if we could camp overnight and were told no by the two ladies working here on this Saturday. We showed them the ioverlander writeup and they ended up taking our info and faxing it over to the police but it certainly seems that camping here is not the usual. That being said they do allow overnight parking with fill out of a form but you're apparently not supposed to stay in the vehicle when parked.

Beautiful visitor center located just off I81. Thought I’d take a chance and asked if they allow overnight parking and they absolutely do. They even fill in a form with your vehicle information ti fax to local police so you don’t get bothered by them. Lovely walking path leads down to old log cabins, picnic tables, and garbage cans. Building is open (with restrooms) 9am to 5pm. Quieter than Cracker Barrel and the Walmart across the way doesn’t allow overnight. Extremely friendly and helpful. Only con…parking spaces aren’t completely level…i just parked so the head of my bed was on the higher side 😊
