Description

This free campground is quite a gem! It's on BLM land, and there are a couple of picnic sites, then you reach the campground with about 8 spots. Both tent & RV sites available. It's right by the edge of a canyon full of badlands formations. Very cool views! 6 miles down a gravel road, that's ok for passenger cars except possibly after a heavy rain. You'll pass some overlooks and picnic spots before you reach the campground.

Latest Check-Ins

As previously described. A long dirt, partially dusty road that first leads to some beautiful picnic areas and eventually to this BLM campground with beautiful bad lands views. Only a few camping spots but they are worth it. I had good reception with Verizon. There is a pit toilet. No trash or other services. If the weather is right this place is nice. Would probably avoid the dirt road and campground if there is a lot of rain. Also note it can be quite windy in this campground.

Excellent endroit pour la nuit avec vue sur les Badlands et un splendide coucher de soleil sur le canyon. Route très correcte. Calme.
Excellent spot with a view on the Badlands and a splendid sud-est overdose the Canyon. Road ok

We stayed one night. Got in when it was dark, around 7 pm, and woke up to snow! Beautiful views, no one else was there. The bathrooms were nice and I am so happy to have stumbled upon this gem!

About 5 miles down a mounded, rutted, somewhat clay dirt road is a very cool spot. The view is ridiculously amazing, looking out and down on some beautiful topography. The sites are gravel pull-offs or areas for tents with fire pits and picnic tables. There are even a couple pit toilets. It is stellar, though the road could use grading to flatten the ruts out. Would recommend.

Nice and quiet spot in February. There was only one van camper, the rest of the spots were empty. There’s a park bench and fire pit for every spot. There’s also at least 2 outhouses.

Report Check-In

Wonderful views from this spot. The campsites were accessible even though it’s February and the roads were a little muddy. Only one other vehicle and they got here around 7 or 8 am this morning. A bit windy but manageable in our rooftop tent!

Amazing place! very nice camping spots… no one here but me and one other suv.. got the pick of spots.. no problems getting her, some wash board roads but not a problem for my minivan…

Beautiful spot on mountains nice clean camping area

Great free camping spot with a view ! The dirt road to the sites were bumpy so drive slow. I drove a 2WD Honda suv with no issues. T Mobile worked great !

Great camp site! We were late getting here, almost dark. Got the last camp site, but it was perfect for us. will definitely be back..views are gorgeous!

Pit toilet available. A few sites that will work for roof top tents, vans, or very small trailers. The rim walk trail is beautiful, especially at sunset.

Seems like they just smoothed out the road this week as it was extremely bumpy when I drove in, but much smoother when I exited several days later. The spots are close together so you will see & hear neighbors if it's busy. Most sites are narrow, one large site. Toilets were clean and stocked with tp during my visit. Good service with TMobile. Quite a few people camping at the picnic areas and overlooks as well.

Down a bumpy gravel road. Nice clean site with picnic table, fire pit, and pit toilets. Beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Report Check-In

Don’t use google maps. All the roads they show are closed. Go to the entrance a couple more miles up 550.

As described. We would have stayed at the aforementioned picnic sites, but the wind was howling and the campground had more trees. Unfortunately there was one trailer camper who ran his full size generator all day and all night! Such a nice place. Too bad it was ruined for us. BLM needs a camp host to handle selfish campers.

Nice simple campsite with spectacular views; - you can camp right on the cliff edge.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Cold at night (12°) but sunny and pleasant during the day. We loved it so much we stayed two nights. Arrived Friday, left Sunday. Only one other van here when we arrived. Super nice couple, had a nice chat. They left and we had the place to ourselves Saturday night. Great hikes, stunning views. 2-3 bars Verizon. With a weboost and hotspot we were able to zoom a meeting with no problem. We hate to leave but need to keep heading east.

Awesome free BLM campground in the middle of amazing scenery. We drove the gravel road in our two-wheel drive van a day or so after some light snow and the road was clear and in great condition. Pit toilet, picnic tables, fire rings, and two bars Verizon LTE.

spectacular views. a few shady spots, clean pit toilets. good enough cell to work but probably not strong enough for streaming. there are 4ish spots total including a larger spot for a group. got here on a Friday and we were the only ones for a while.

Fantastic BLM area. Very peaceful. Incredible scenery. Bring something to level your vehicle and an air pump to air backup. The six mile road in is extreme washboard and will rattle your teeth out of your mouth. Definitely air down before driving on it. I had strong ATT and T-Moble signal without any booster. Strong enough to stream.

Gorgeous campground! On the edge of the badlands of New Mexico with great views of Angel’s Peak. Campsite had table with pavilion and fire pit. Lots of trails along the rim of the badlands. Arrived around 7pm on a Tuesday and about 4 spots still available. Great stop on way to Durango

Nice blm campgrounds, the best sites were full of travel trailers. But there were sites better sheltered from the wind farther back. Gravel road. No need for 4x4 or high clearance.

Worth spending a night here. Wonderful spot with good basic facilities. It’s a real shame someone opened this area for drilling (fracking I believe). It’s incredibly beautiful.

Nice BLM camp spot. Not a lot of spaces maybe 7. Cell 1 bar Verizon road in 5 miles and ROUGH

Great BLM camping spot, was here last year, it was windy and had to leave, not much wind today and a little warm high 80s now middle of June.

trails (both groomed and wild), picnic tables, firepits WITH firewood, gazebos... only thing missing is trash bins. You will experience brilliant sunrise and sunset views, extremely quiet nights and a Brazilian stars❣

Three ‘picnic areas’ and the campground is at at end of the 7mile dirt road. Talked to a local and he said it’s ok to stay the night at the picnic areas so we did. The nearest camper was over a mile away. Awesome views!
The oil pickup trucks roll thru a couple of times each day but there’s only a couple of campers passing thru per day.
A pure gem.

The views here are amazing. There are picnic tables and benches along scenic paths. Nobody was there when we went.

Report Check-In

Nice view. Quiet place. Beautiful hikes on the edge.

Report Check-In

Great vistas of the peaks and rock castes and good hiking trails nearby. About 6-7 campsites with tables and fire rings and dry toilets nearby. Unfortunately no dispersed camping is allowed. The beauty of the site is sadly spoiled by gas pipeline operations and the 24/7 noise from some kind of pump or lift station that can be heard from everywhere.
