Breathtaking views of Salt Lake City, it’s just outside. Not too far out and it’s a flat gravel parking lot. Be prepared that there will be hikers in the morning, but they didn’t bother me.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stayed there on 8/14, lots of traffic in evening. One sign says no camping and the other says dispersed camping is OK. Got pretty sketchy at night, one couple came and set up a tent and then disappeared in the middle of the night, a couple then came up to neck in their car, then some guy showed up and was riffling through his car at 1:00AM and then disappeared and then a sheriff's deputy showed up and rousted the neckers and was super interested in the guys car. All of this at 2:00AM, by 3:00AM the place is deserted except for us and the guy's car. We were freaked out by then and left at 3:00AM. Deputy never contacted us while he was there. We will never be back.
Report Check-InLoved this campsite! I stayed here a couple night since I had a conference in SLC, and I really loved it. The reception was great, so I could even ft my partner in the evenings, and the view of the city spectacular. The mountain bikers are ever-present, but they didn’t bother me any. Great if you’re looking for a free place to stay that’s only 20 minutes from downtown convention centers!
Report Check-InWe stayed in the lower trailhead area, which turned out to be a mistake. We were awoken around midnight-1 am by a cop banging on our door. He was very friendly and even gave us another option to park at the Cabela's down the road from this spot. He stated there are signs that say the park closes at 11 pm every day. we're not sure if the cop went up to the other spots or just the trailhead. We did not remember seeing any signs that say the park closes at 11 pm, but we may have just missed them.
Report Check-InQuiet on a weekday. Be prepared for wind noise. Definitely recommend for one night if you’re in a pinch.
Report Check-InAs described. mountain bikers were hitting the trail by 7:00 a.m. so plan to leave early.
Report Check-InVery snowy at the trailhead. We arrived around 930pm and were the only van staying overnight. Several trucks of friendly high schoolers showed up around 10pm, just out driving around. In the morning we woke up to many snowmobiles, as this is a popular spot. They were super nice, but also suggested we park a 1/4 mile down the road at a large turnout instead of the trailhead parking since there’s an actual sign the states ‘no camping’. They said most people that stay overnight use the turnout. We saw it in the morning; it’s very large. Three big trucks and several snowmobiles were parked in it.
