This is the actual beach camping location. Before heading straight down to the water you have to take a left turn and drive by the military base (it's on your right). Soon take a right turn down to the beach. The turn off has a blue sign saying San Juan beach, 100 meters but it is facing traffic coming from the opposite direction.

nice camp. roads to the beach are open. not really hidden but OK for one night. we camped on a small flat area a bit more out of sight, on the left side of the beach. follow the dirt path from the beach to the direction of Puno. many fire pits but there was no one around, very quiet.
Report Check-InThis is tough to get to currently because the majority of the roads are under construction. We tried about eight roads that were all blocked. I recommend going to the village plaza and asking the police for directions, which is what we ended up doing. Super narrow road to get through town with cars parked. We could barely fit with a Land Cruiser. The spot is very exposed. No wind protection for RTT. We ended up not staying.
Report Check-InThe road is opened again. We asked the lady in the house and she proposed to park right next to her house. Free and very safe. Toilets 5min walk.
Report Check-Inthey were working on clearing the entrance to the road today when I arrived.
not particularly hidden spot, but people say it's safe. beautiful beach.
The road leading down after the Military base is now blocked with big stones and dirt. A motorcycle might be able to get by but we certainly couldn’t.
Report Check-InEntrance is now blocked with boulders and dirt. Not possible to drive down. (I won't mark it as closed in case this is a temporary thing)
Report Check-InPossibly the best spot to spend a night after crossing the border or vice versa. As mentioned, take the side road before hitting the pier and drop down to the beach when possible. If you have a 4x4 there is a spot about 20m away from the beach entrance on your left which is sheltered from all wind. Amazing sunrise and peaceful until much later in the morning.
Report Check-InLovely quiet little place. No facilities. The beach is actually sandy in places so watch where you drive. Lovely sunrise- got here too late for sunset
Report Check-InLovely little spot we wild camped on the beach. Asked the lady in the house on the right it was good. Beautiful lake views. Quiet night.
Report Check-InHad a great night here. The beach cleared out at dark and the stars were stunning. We got early sun and there was very little wind. I think this would be a good place for families or adults young at heart. At the pier, there are quads, a playground, swan-shaped paddle boats, and the restaurant is shaped like a steam ship!
Report Check-InAs mentioned above the turn to the camping area is a left hand turn on to a dirt road before you hit the lake and the pier. This road takes you to the west side of the beach and next to a couple of buildings that look like warehouses. These buildings are owned by a nice guy who owns some quad bikes and is happy to help. If you are tent camping you can actually go further west along the beach above a load of rocks.
Toilets are on the pier between the restaurant/bar and the shop. The door is a brown/orange colour and was unlocked all the time we were there. Although they are not particularly nice toilets and are operated using a bucket.
