We spent one night here.
If it weren't for the fact that we paid it feels like free camping.... There is no water (you get it from the lake), no electricity, and the tent site they offered us was in a meadow where cows and goats were grazing. For these non-services we paid far too much (30000 UGX for two). The owners were not present, the restaurant therefore did not work, and the place looks somewhat abandoned.
Very nice view, remote setting, and super quiet place with no lights. Enjoy the starry sky!

Again like in every place the price went up… 50.000 for two persons (6$ppn).
Still ok, the place is really nice. A couple of the villagers on the way from the North were not so happy to see us…
I would not want to drive here with something much bigger than our Land Rover.

Lovely setting with the village happening around you, camping with a car is on top of the hill, great views, little privacy with the neighbors staring you down but you can park in a way to face away from them and they leave you alone. The main challenge is no easy access to any water or compost toilet which is all the way down the stairs at the lake so I used the toilet of the staff and fetched my own water from down the lake, warm water once in 5 days unfortunately and you will have to ask for anything as nobody seems too concerned about guests but its quiet, lots of birdlife and a peaceful place to relax for some days. The kids will ask for money once but will leave when you smile and say no... I really enjoyed this place, the food was great and home cooked (although a bit steep at 10USD for dinner) and stayed for 5 nights. Internet can be used with Wilfred’s hotspot if you really need it.

As commented below, relaxing and peaceful. We had dinner - good portion sizes and yummy! We didn't have hot water though as the donkey boiler was being fixed. Spectacular view and friendly staff and villagers. We enjoyed our time here. Only negative, is we found the owner to be quite rude.

An incredible location and hospitality with heart, humour and honesty. Chalet with breakfast for two was USD30 pn. Stand Up Paddle board hire USD10 per day. Shower super hot and amenities clean and functional. Recommend supporting this establishment as proceeds go towards the local school adjacent.

simple but great place. we opted for the chalet option 30$ for 2 with good breakfast. camping for rooftop tent is flat and large with great view. not a lot of shade though and ablution quite far down the hill. We stayed 2 days, swam, did a boat tour and a hike. great experience. we came back for camping after gorilla trecking in Rushaga since there are no other great camping possibility in the region.

Really nice place, good food and lovely company. You can choose to pitch the tent on the top of the hill or down at the lake. Relaxing spot, def recommended!

Beautiful location, friendly family, great food! When you stay in your rooftop tent you can stay on a beautiful hill, next to a village home. We did get a bit annoyed with the kids from this home, who were starring at us for 2 days and even started saying ‘hello hello hello’ and ‘give me money’ at some point. We let the family know.

As everyone says, a bit difficult to reach on the one-lane mountain pass from Kabale, but it’s worth the 30 min sidetrack - maps.me has the most accurate routing. Several small cottages with lake views, a communal braai pit, composting toilets, and a hot shower (but low pressure). Meals available in the dining hall. Wine and cold beer delivered to the campsite! We stayed for two nights and ordered a six pack and the total was 68,000.

Wilfred the manager and the staff are wonderful, and they keep the vibe relaxed. There is really only one viable campsite, space maybe for two vehicles with roof tents. The views across the lake are spectacular. Very quiet. 1975 m in elevation - so expect refreshingly chilly nights.

Note that this lodge is integrated fully into the life of the village (the campsite feels a bit like you’re sleeping in the neighbor’s banana patch). The village kids and other folks will stop to say hi or sell you baskets, but they know the drill - if you want some privacy, they’ll be on their way. The kids sell baskets made by their grandmothers and they are very reasonable (10,000) with the added bonus of getting to meet the artisan.

If you want you can participate in the garden and farm work. They will also arrange gorilla tours and safaris if you ask in advance.

Bas - the big, friendly lodge dog - loves a belly rub.

I was seeking a place to rest for a few days and this place is just perfect. You are in the middle of the nature, right at the lake and it is very very peaceful! The cottages are close to the shore, two nice hot showers, food cooked is excellent and the Manager Willfried (dutsch/german) and his staff are very welcoming and friendly. They can organize activities for you as well, like boatrides, hikes and tours to nearby places. With the Guesthouse Wilfried supports the community by building a school, employing teachers, educating the community in farming. He has lived here for a long time, he can share a lot of valuable insights and information. I totally recommend this place, I had a very pleasant stay and left totally recovered.

Homestay beautifully located at the lake with a grassy spot where you can camp with max 2 to 3 cars. There is also a possibility to pitch your tent at the lake front. They have 4 simple houses where you can stay for $15 pppn incl breakfast whereas camping is $5 pppn. The houses are cosy with a porch, but the matrasses have had their best time.
2 eco Toilets and donkey showers are all down stairs, but are a bit run down.
No power and no braai or fire pit.
You can have a proper, freshly made 3 course meal here for $10 pp and portions are plenty. Nice thing is, is that everybody is sitting together at a long table. Great way to meet new people.
There are a lot of activities to do here, but you can also relax and play with the local kids that all come and have a look when you arrive.

This is really a wonderfull place to camp. Yes, the roads to get there are a bit exciting, especially when it's wet. And very narrow with our truck. But finally it works...

Report Check-In

We agree with the comments of the other visitors.
Coming from Kisoro side the road is in very poor condition, crossing with another car sometimes difficult because not enough space. The access to the campsite is partially very steep and rocky, difficult specially when wet.

As described - great place to stay and and lovely home cooked meal at reasonable prices

Beautiful place to camp in a rooftop on the hill. View over lake and mountains all the way round. Wilford and staff very friendly. Food excellent. Showers hot. No running water or power at campsite. Local kids like to watch every move at first, till the novelty wears off. Nights totally quiet. No lights so stars are spectacular. Stayed 3 nights.

Awesome quiet place on a peninsula of Lake Bunyonyi. They also run the primary school next to it. Easy to camp with a rooftoptent, although facilities are all "downstairs". Very happy we stayed here and not down the busy end of the lake! Wilfred, the Dutch owner, and his staff were very friendly.
