Description

Customs and Immigration for both Argentina and Bolivia are located on Argentina side of the bridge - do all necessary vehicle paperwork there. Clearly marked booths! Very quiet and easy border compared to Villazon. Argentina Aduana checking vehicles at a checkpoint before the border formalities. Police and toll road in Bolivian on the other side of the bridge. Bermejo has a huge market and tons of food stalls, worth checking out.

nice and easy border crossing, very busy but if you just follow the right order (they gave you a card with the 4 stop to complete) it's painless. just remember to ask for the Argentina aduana to cancel your tip.
they didn't check inside the car.

after the bridge you need to pay for the highway to tajija. they accepted Argentinian pesos. 20bol per car

6. After the bridge we had to pay 6 BOB. I think it is for the road. You will get a receipt on your TIP

Awful border crossing. Crossed from Bolivia into Argentina.
The customs check took about 15 min and was all easy.
At the next checkpoint I waited for more than 2 1/2 hours even though the line wasn't long. The staff seems to be not only slow but incompetend. Seeing how much they searched in their computers and consulted with each other I had the impression they had no idea how to do the paperwork. Consequently, the Argentinian staff filled out the TIP wrong. I told them and they had to do it again. Meanwhile the Bolivian staff copied the licencse plate wrong from their suspended TIP.
Moreover, I had insect bites all over my hands from waiting outside. Aboute 10 each side. My hands were swollen for 2 days. I'm not alergic to anything. If you react sensitive to insect bites you may want to cosider crossing at La Quiaca - Villazón.

*Edit* just over the bridge you have to stop near the small buildings and show your papers and pay a small fee 20 BOB. It's not clear you have to do this so make sure you stop as the next police checkpoint is about 90km away and they check you have paid this fee. We had no bolivian money but they let us go into the town (Bermejo) to go to a cash machine. Once you've paid, make sure they staple your receipt to your TIP as you need to show it at police checkpoints and tolls.

One of the best border crossings we've done in South America. Everything in one modern building, the two countries' migration and aduanas for passport stamps and vehicle permits. The nicest people and no queue at all!

Report Check-In

Easiest crossing since Canada. No queues of trucks. No need to throw away fruit and vegetables. Just a little organized office with both Bolivian and Argentinan immigration and Aduna sitting next to each other. On a Sunday there were a few other people but took 40 mins at most.

Bolivia to Argentina :

We are french with a Chilean car and everything went fine. Their is a first stop for the aduana of Argentina just after the bridge, and as we had all our stuff tied up in the van and not in bags, they lead us until the border where there is a big scanner for vehicle. All the staff was super nice, they even gave us mango !

After we did all the proceed in the building on the right of the street, very easily, and everybody was so nice.

Have a nice trip everyone !

Easy and friendly staff on our visit. Park on the right before the building. Go into the building on right and go to desk 1 (Bolivia Migracion). You will be stamped out. If you have a working visa you will have to pay 160 Bolivianos. They will then tell you to go to desk 2 (Argentina Migracion). They will stamp you in and give you a small stamped slip of paper. Keep this safe.

Next go to Window 3 (Aduana Bolivia). Note: we did not need a stamp from police (maybe in 4 wheel vehicle you do?). We also did not need a photocopy of the TIP. The lady cancelled our TIP and did not give us anything in return as it is not required.

We then went to Window 4 (Argentina Aduana). They will need your vehicle registration/title, passport and licence. They did not ask us for insurance. You sign two copies and hand one back to the Aduana officer. All done. Check for mistakes...ours had one which the lady changed quickly and easily.

From the scanning of all our stuff just after the bridge to finishing all of the above it took us about 90 minutes maximum. For a small border it was quite busy but friendly and efficient.

easy process exiting Bolivia. step one is previous ioverlander mark for customs inspection of car. they didn't care about fruit or other food that we had. they carefully looked at some of our spices (probably for marijuana ) then escorted us 1 km for vehicle x-ray. x-ray took 15 minutes

then we u-turned back to this spot for border paperwork. it's all organized into several numbered counters so you just proceed down the line. this took maybe 20 minutes on a Sunday at midday. we had vehicle insurance but did NOT need to show it.

There's a military check down the road a bit they checked passports and we we're on our way.

If you have a vehicle with you and are heading for Argentina, you MUST have vehicle insurance for Argentina at this particular border. Get it ahead.
***You will need to show proof of insurance to get your Argentina TIP. ***
Everything is in the same building here. Locals said it is open 24 hours and does not even close for lunch. Time moves ahead an hour here from Bolivia.
First step, you hand over your Bolivian TIP, passport and Bolivian tourist card. You get stamped out of Bolivia in your passport, they take Bolivian tourist card, and give you back Bolivian TIP and passport. Step 2, you need passport and both ORIGINAL of Bolivian TIP and the copy of TIP with police stamps on it (from entering and exiting Bolivia). They will take both Bolivian TIPs, give you back stamped-into-Argentina passport, and an Argentina tourist card (save this for exiting Argentina later - tiny piece of paper). Last step, hand over passport and vehicle title AND Argentina vehicle insurance to Aduana to get an Argentina TIP.

We were going from Ar to Bo, had some kind of document problems, but about 2 hours later Argentina DNM gave up to find out the fact and let us pass. No one wanted to check our car. Maybe because it was a Sunday evening?!
