Description

An incredible beach with 24-hour security due to a small police station. Water is drinkable as it is purified in the entire region, there are always people, easy access for any type of vehicle, the sand is firm. Police let us use the toilets and showers. No tents allowed, but that might depend on how busy it is, so just ask to be sure. Lots of friendly and well-fed dogs (the police take care of them, how adorable.) Small restaurant on the beach next to the police station.
---

Great spot, super beach for swimming, no waves at all
Police is super friendly and space is monitored 24/7.
Enjoy and pack out your stuff

Report Check-In

Great place to camp. Police are very friendly. Super safe and a few other overlanders.

Report Check-In

A nice place to camp on the beach. The road is certainly good to drive with your campervan. Every place has a table and trash can. You are not supposed to use the toilets and showers of the police. They do ensure safety day and night. And they like to chat. There is water that you can use to shower. Refreshment can be found in the sea that is blissfully cold! Bring your own toilet. There is the possibility to empty your toilet. Were there 3 nights before we crossed the border to Nicaragua. Recommended!

Report Check-In

great place to stay after border crossing. safe with police near by. drinking water tap available nearby to full up the truck.
good beach to swim.
some friendly locals during the day on weekends but quiet at night.
lots of shade or open sky for solar and Starlink.

Report Check-In

Small update, the police officers told us we could also use their showers, how kind!

Report Check-In

Amazing spot, quiet (weekends people leave around 21:00/9 PM), lots of well fed and friendly dogs. Small police station with officers 24/7, also super friendly and helpful (they feed the dogs, how adorable). They told us we could use their bathroom and all the faucets here have purified water (apperently the entire region). Camping in vans/cars allowed, not in tents. Also, it is free! And as one of the officers said: "You can stay as long as you like".

Report Check-In

Stayed here 2 nights. It was nice and quiet, beautiful sunset. Nobody here and very secfrom time to time police went around the camping sites

Report Check-In

Beautiful beach, we continued the path to camp on the beach and be alone. The setting is magnificent, the sunset superb! The police patrol the beach on foot, they advised us to be careful near the estuary, there are crocodiles.

Report Check-In

Extremely underrated!! Beach was beautiful. Great spot after crossing the border. We didn’t want to risk our pets at Finca Cańas. There was a couple dogs but super friendly didn’t mess with our Belgian Malinos or Cat.

Report Check-In

Still a wonderfull place. Very quiet, beautifull and safe

Increíble Lugar, una Playa hermosa con acceso para cualquier tipo de vehículo, hay una caseta de policía a la que preguntamos y amablemente nos indicaron que aquí se puede estar 24 horas y que también ya se podía poner Carpa para acampar .

Report Check-In

excelente lugar, limpio, seguro. Mesas para picnic rodeado de árboles.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for a night and absolutely loved it! Theres a little police building where we asked permission… as long as you are sleeping in your car in some way, staying overnight is allowed and free! No tents on the ground. We had the place mostly to ourselves with some friendly dogs and chickens.

Report Check-In

Most beautiful place we have been in costa rica (other than playa coyote). Talked to police to ask for permission. They had no problems. Tent camping on top of car. Tent camping on beach isn’t ok. We parked infront of police stand. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Report Check-In

We ask the police: Once you sleep in your car, it is allowed to camp at this place. Police is around and is giving you a feeling of security. Free.

Report Check-In

Up : we ask the police of we can sleep here. They told us yes. It is forbidden just for tent on the beach. Amazing place just on the beach ! Best campsite !! Free

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed and camping is no longer allowed according to municipal law. There are many posters around the beach stating that it is “prohibited to camp”. We were sad to find out since the place is absolutely stunning such a great camping site.

The locals and police told us it is not allowed to camp here due to Covid restrictions and were very ***very*** firm but kind on their position. We just bathed there (such nice beach!!) and left.

The police station is right on the beach so you can’t not really sneak or try to hide. Locals told us they have been fined for being caught camping. Seems the police is pretty strict and do multiple rounds in the beach. We decided to bike 2km more and camped at Casa Soley - 3,000 pp for camping ($6).

Left a review on Casa Soleys profile. It was such a wonderful place to arrive !!

Report Check-In

Still perfect place to stay and enjoy this non touristic bay!

Report Check-In

Amazing place to spend a few nights after or before the border. Such a beautiful sunset. Felt super safe. Police station is just 50 meters from the beach. Others locals camping too. You can park just 5 meters from the water and make some fire on the sand. Perfect place to relax. Lots of locals hanging around to watch the sunset . No strong cellphone signal though .

Report Check-In

Perfect spot for a first night in Costa Rica! Right on the beach, there were other overlanders, we loved it.

Report Check-In

Public beach with a little police station. Big place with shadow. Not much people even on the we... No facilities... Nice place to swim , with children good.. With welcoming breeze...! Free and feel safe... Take the road on maps.me not the one which is inducated on the road because there's a lot of sand !!

Report Check-In

a few people camping around semana santa, but quiet after 8pm.
nice to stay a few days. good swimming!

Report Check-In

Awesome spot! Great place to stop after crossing the border, with police on sight! Wonderful breeze and beautiful sunset. Tall and wider rigs will have some problems. We are 3m and several branches scraped our top....

Report Check-In

Nós achamos o local bem legal, um bosque a beira mar super tranquilo, a polícia bem gente boa. Haviam outros viajantes em moto acampando em barraca. A noite alguns carros chegam para beber cerveja e escutar música.

Report Check-In

I've been boondocking, windsurfing and fishing for a week here. The bay is stuning and this area well maintained. I wouldn't be surprised that contraband may exist due to the Nicaragua proximity. As much as I'm sure these guys get more lucrative things to do than bothering overlanders. This is a quiet place will a lot of families coming from La Cruz to chill by the bay. Incredible sunsets, too! Higly recommended.

Report Check-In

It's NOT a safe place to overnight. We spent one night there and we saw boats and cars bringing clandestin things. It was dangerous because one car used our motorhome to hide from the Police Station in the right side of the beach. Don't recommended!

Report Check-In

as descriped. police station nearby, great place to relax, swim, and enjoy the sun.

Report Check-In

Muy buen lugar. Maravillosa bahía de Salinas.Hay agua potable. La policía está allí las 24 horas

Report Check-In

Maravilloso lugar.

Report Check-In

The bumpy access road from La Cruz is no longer, tarmac all the way. Spent 2 nights here and it was perfect. Friendly p.....eople.

Un lugar sumamente tranquilo y lindo Ideal para dormir antes de cruzar a Nicaragua.

A very quiet and nice place Ideal to sleep before crossing to Nicaragua.

Report Check-In

Very nice spot and beach, one of the nicest in Guanacaste. Available for all kind of rigs. Stayed a few nights. Police station very closed. Although no grossery around, cold water and many ants! Free!

Report Check-In

Nice spot to run to/from the border. Sandy, secure, water fill available. As described. Named Puerto Soley. Public beach.

Report Check-In

Good place! Police station around.

Espectacular lugar para dormir. La policia cuida del lugar. Muy tranquilo. Muchos pájaros. Fantástico.

Report Check-In

Still a great place to spend a night (or more). Peaceful, beautiful, clean.

Report Check-In

Great place to camp beautiful bay, shady spots right on beach, and free! Small Police barrack on site, safe and secure. Potable water at police shack, outhouse if you really want to use it! Can buy fresh fish lobster, or shrimp from the fishermen down the beach, go to green house to buy seafood. Plenty of beach wood for campfires, La Cruz close by for groceries, close to Penas Blancas ! We really liked this site!

Report Check-In

This place was perfect for our first night in costa rica. So beautiful and peaceful, there are plenty of spots around the bay to choose from. A few locals around but just us at night :)

Report Check-In

Really nice spot with beuatifull view!

Report Check-In

Mild breeze when we were here. Hot during the day but cool enough at night. Watch for acacia thorns when walking, some are long enough to go all the way through flip flops. A couple late night locals arrived but mostly quiet.

Report Check-In

Great spot guys! Thanks. Busy at weekends, but reasonable tranquilo, except for a few hours early sundaynight disco. Monday nobody there. Easy access for all rigs. Public watertap close to the police. No restaurant or shop. So bring your own food or drinks.

Report Check-In

This is a great free camping spot. We crossed the border from Nicaragua and decided to stay here. A bit windy at times, but other than that a great spot. Beautiful water, police station nearby and quiet.

Report Check-In

We didn't stay. Beautiful area with picnic tables and rubbish bins right bay beach. Stunning view. Looks safe.

Report Check-In

Ample picknick area by the beach, with benches and tables, lots of low trees, sun and shade available, level, breezy during the day, hot at night. Great beach, clear, tranquil waters, nice sunset. Police station on location, free.
A fantastic spot had it not been for the party people blowing their speakers at (saturday) night. Apart from that one car, it was awesome and well worth the bumpy access road from La Cruz. Higher trucks will be a bit limited in their choice of spots due to the bushes but still find a nice spot to park.
