Description

Thysqua Refugio Florián offers 2 Cabañas with breathtaking view of the cascadas. We paid 100’ per night. The place is not accessible with big rigs. Only bikes and 4x4 recommended, especially when it’s wet. Tents are also welcome. Theres a place under a round pavilion and also shower and a toilet. At this location you can easily blend into nature. We stayed 3 nights and visited the cave (ventana de Thisquizote) and the base pool (charco azul). From the cabanas You can hike directly to the base and do a loop via the village back to the place. Like 12 km and 3h absolute worth the effort. Sergio, his mom Rubiela and José are super friendly hosts. They help you with everything. We felt that this is a really special location in Colombia.

This is a wonderful little place with a gorgeous view of the falls. Everything is still as described by prior visitors, the cabanas are 90.000 per night, and that felt super worth it for the location, the view and the cabins. They are outfitted with a small kitchen so you can cook, and watch sunset over the waterfall. In the morning I saw toucans in the tree! Sergio is very friendly, they do want reservations in advance and on the weekends it seems like they fill up (I wanted to extend my stay and couldn’t). They also let me park my moto up at their house, and even put a cover over it.

A note on the road to Albania - you can continue this way from the cabins to leave Florian in a new route. However it would be for 4x4s and motorcycles only. Sergio described it to me as “only do this if you are confident on your moto.” It’s steep and pretty rocky, and there were a few small stream crossings that could be deeper if it’s wet. If you did not feel super comfortable with the road to the cabins from town, don’t keep going this way. It’s 14 miles of worse. I wouldn’t try this route if it had been raining. If you’re looking for an adventure it’s fun! Map from here to Albania, to Briceno. Google picked a few wrong turns but it was pretty easy to backtrack and find the actual ways. Took about 2 hours from here to the main road.

Camping is 25.000 cop per tent, which is a really good price for such a nice location for us two. Highly recommended.

Also parking for our motorbikes was next to their house under a roof and away from the street, so very happy about that as well.

come and enjoy it.

Breathtaking place to stay. Quiet and very private with a beautiful view of the Ventana de tisquiozque. There is no parking and it's not suitable for large rigs, meaning anything longer than a typical SUV. We drive a Toyota Landcruiser and we fit snuggly into a "space" right off the road. Barely.

There are 2 cabins with bathrooms and a small kitchen with floor to ceiling windows that give expansive views of the cave and waterfall. There is a palapa if you have a tent, you can set it up there. They also have 2 outdoor showers and bathrooms, the showers have cold water only. Sergio and his family are so kind and helpful. At this time, the route down on google maps is closed to vehicle traffic ( eberything but motos) because the road is washed out and they're building a bridge, you can zoom on your map to see the other road that google didn't highlight, take that one. It's very steep and will require 4x4 or motor bike. Motorbikes can access the original google maps road, there is a bridge just for motos and foot traffic.

They like to have reservations so they can have everything ready when you show up. We just showed up hoping to camp in our RTT, but that wasn't an option and we couldn't beat the view. It's 90k per couple per night and then 35k per additional person in the same cabana per night. There are a few friendly dogs on site. Sergio offered to have anything we needed from town brought to us of we needed and have all the connections in town if you want to have a guide to take you to the falls or around to explore the area.
