small spot hidden from the road. enough space for at least two cars off the soft sand, more space on the sand. three military lads came round and told us it was dangerous (bandits, of course), but port-gentil is tiny so I'm dubious. I'd done two interviews that day and wasn't up for the argument so gave them a beer each and they seemed happy with that. Told us they'd be hidden close by for our security. They definitely weren't, but it was an absolutely quiet night, no one passed by all evening or morning. they were the only people we saw. from the litter around and tyre tracks I'd say people come here on the weekend so probably not a good option on weekend nights, but good for avoiding high port-gentil accommodation costs!

nice place to stay for a night between palm trees. one military guy checked our documents, but very friendly and said it's a safe area.
