Description

Nice open Grassy area that could accommodate a handful of vehicles. No high clearance needed. Just shy of a 20min drive to Grand Portage National Monument and about a 25min drive north of Grand Marais. I came in late when it was pitch black so i was unsure what the terrain was like back through the short trail so i camped at the entrance but checked it out in the morning. Wanted to see High Falls and there's not much for dispersed camping close to it but I'd def camp here again!

Nice spot. We parked in the back corner of the loop. No real level spots but close enough (within 7”). Firm ground. Grassy field.

Report Check-In

We used the GPS coordinates to find this spot. It brought us to a big open area near a stream & a small bridge. We went into the grassy area just before the bridge & ended up finding a clearing through the trees where we were able to park, hidden from the road & had enough tree line coverage to shelter from the rain. We didn't hear much traffic as the road is currently closed to thru traffic. This was the perfect spot, felt safe & hidden.

Gravel road inbut the grass is very tall. We found a spot crushed down and parked there. Some road noise but not bad.

pulled up the road and followed it to the grassy area as described. took the two-lane track back and around. there is a tiny little trailhead right at the back of the u. there wasn't really a place to pull off back there and I didn't want to block it if somebody else decided to come in later, so I parked as close to the back of the field in between the two ends of the horseshoe. If you go further up the road it says private drive And there were two mailboxes out on the highway. Hoping I don't get a knock or someone coming to check me out tonight. Will update in the morning. Got here around 6:30 p.m. and it wasn't yet dark, but since I can't drive in the dark I didn't want to wait until later. could fit a couple of small rigs back here although I think if too many people parked here at one time, it might get marked closed. light highway noise, but not bad. If this didn't check out I was going to go back to the harbor about an hour south. That one checked out fine when I popped in this afternoon. They say you can park anywhere in the National forest, but since I'm not from the area I wasn't super familiar with things and wasn't really in the mood to Do a lot of searching tonight. heading to the National Monument in the morning and then back down the coast. Just want to recommend the Guide Along app. I've used it all over the country for tours of national parks and other interesting areas. I used it coming up the North shore and he provides a lot of really good info. app is free to install and then you pay for the individual tours. I have gotten my money's worth out of the tours I've downloaded. ❤️

Report Check-In

Open field about the size of a football field. No designated spots and with 1 foot high grass, no fires. A little road noise when heavy with traffic, but otherwise very quiet.

No cell signal; 90 Mbps with Starlink.

Stayed here the night before catching the ferry in Grand Portage to Isle Royale. Can hardly hear the highway and felt secluded.
