Description

Beautiful place at the end of a valley with fantastic views and many great hiking trails. Pitches have braai stands and are located between two rivers. Trout fishing possible in season. Small shop at reception. The access road is gravel and potholed tarmac but very scenic. Our favourite camp in the Drakensbergs. 90R (6€) pp

Beautiful place. Lots of birdlife. Hot showers. Camp sites have braai’s and very clean

WARNING!
There is roadconstruction going on ca 5 km outside the park boarders. Some lunitic has placed clayish material on the road making it impossible to drive with a 2WD car. Partly covering the road is heeps of coarse material making the road very narrow. After the heavy rains it is very slippery.
No signs telling this, so we entered the road, finding out that there was no place to turn around. Managed to "slip down" all the way to the campsite in a "near to death" experience.
We have now waited two nights to have someone to tow us out on the road.
4x4 cars can pass in both directions but we travel in a campervan 2WD that is 2,2 x 6,7 meter and weights 3,5 ton.
So check roadconditions before enter!

Beautiful surroundings and a great base for hiking (marble baths was one of our favourite hikes of a six month trip). Gets very busy at the weekend, but plenty of spots. Braai sites were a bit hit and miss. Basic but fine amenities. Bit of a bumpy road down!

Nice Campsite, good ablution, a few km of the road is unsealed, can be muddy and slippery when wet

Indeed a beautiful and scenic place, far away from everything. One of the best places to be!

Good to know: You have to pay for walks as a day visitor.

There are also very nice chalets available.

Beautifully maintained campground in a gorgeous setting. Cost is R95 per adult. If you're interested in San rock art, you can do the hike to Battle Cave. Officially, you're supposed to go with a guide for R70 per person. However, the guides are not trained to do any interpretation and must be arrange in advance. We were allowed to go on our own. We paid R70 total for 2 people and were given a permit and the key to open the gate to the site. Allow about 4.5 hours roundtrip plus time at the site. It's well worth it!!
