Something not right?

Description

Very basic abandoned campsite next to a lovely quiet lake. Takes some effort to get there, especially during the rainy season, but you'll get rewarded with a tranquil spot.
Beautiful surroundings, very helpfull staff. They provide log fires, a clean long drop toilet and fresh water from the lake.
Haven't seen any hippo's or crocs, but not to sure about actually swimming in the lake.
You need to be absolutely self-sufficient.

A very beautiful place despite facilities are run down. There is one long drop and several fireplaces. Also plenty of the little Mopane flies which are after your eyes and ears. We were the only visitors and it was very peaceful. A caretaker from the nearby village appeared after several hours on his bicycle and asked for ZKW100 per per person per night. His English skills were very basic and we were not able to negotiate the price. There is no mobile reception at this place.

Except for a pit toilet nothing here is working. We stopped to have lunch and two men appeared and wanted to charge us for having a picnic 50kw, Camping 100kw pPn. Not friendly as usual in Zambia. The kept lingering around, talking loudly and disturbing the atmosphere of the place, when we told them we are leaving, the began to beg us for food. We didn't feel this is a safe place. No lake access for swimming.

Report Check-In

We arrived at 13.30 and there was an attendant. He wanted to charge us 70 kwacha per person just to have a picknick. We decided to leave. He also charged 70 kwacha p.p.p.n. for camping.

The spot at the see is wonderful, we had a very calm night far from human activities we didn't see anybody.
The place is totally run down and has no more facilities, most of it has been destructed or burned.
The road coming from Chalilo is very sandy we struggled a lot with our bycicles, and on the next day the road to the great north road wasn't better. In that direction the road on maps.me or osmand is run down and replaced by another one which wasn't on our map...

Very beautiful and quiet spot

We arrived in late afternoon finding friendly fishermen on the lake.
Few little flies in this season, but mosquitoes in the evening.

in the morning a person traveling back to the village said he was the watchman and that another person should have informed us about the "rules".
We bought him 2 watermelons (20 k)and it ended the story!

As described before, the campground is abandoned now.
In principal a good place for wild camping, but an infestation of Mopane flies, which attack eyes and ears, made it impossible to camp.

Another abandoned campsite, but perfect as a wildcamp when going to Bangweulu Wetlands, since it is accessible from the road to Chipundu, there is plenty of plain space to park, and lots of firewood around. There is a fisherman's shelter, but no-one there, also, there is no houses close by, we only met a car full of men who stopped here to pee and fill up water.

very lovely spot direct at the lake, but unfortunately run down.....
when we arrived nobody was there but a woman. She told us that some guys "clean" here every now an than and maybe will come or not.
As we would not pay much for, we asked her to tell one of them to come as we expect she will tell them anyway.
After 15min a guy came and asked for 50Kw pppn.
50Kw for both of us would also work, and that price is worth it just for the view I think
But as I made a oilchange we give him our old oil and he was happy with that also.
Only a "toilet" no more. So take all you need with you and pay a little for a bushcamp and stay direct at the lake and enjoy the view.

At the time we arrived 4 "workers" (?) were there. Maybe they want to renew the place? The pittoilet seems OK, the rest rundown. We did'nt stay and bushcamped a 1km in the forest. 18 years ago the place was very nice, now ...

There were no attendants here during our stay, and we camped for free. (Friends who stayed in August had the same experience). The camp may be abandoned. The long drop is functioning, and there's a thatched roof platform which is in good condition by the lake.
Just one person came down to the lake at dusk. We waved to him, but he didn't approach us. There are no villagers for several kilometers in either direction from the lake. Beautiful, peaceful setting.

Beautiful quiet spot in the lake. Jo and Oscar will provide the wood and light the fire. Cost is K60 pppn. Easy to find and get to in a 4x4 in the dry season.
