Something not right?

Description

Dry Arroyo just North of Playa Norte RV Park. Road(s) very soft, would not recommend without 4WD. Seems like a well-known spot but local permanent campers are unfriendly. Some guys came through and sold us pineapple pies and tamales. Long walk to town. Many barking dogs and quads tearing up beach. No services.

Great place to stay for free. Unlike what others have posted, we felt very safe here. Stayed 4 nights. Met several nice people camped here. Beach is rocky at low tide, but you can easily walk south and find a sandier spot. We have a 4wd truck pulling a small trailer and did not need to use 4wd to access the area.

Report Check-In

Would NOT recommend. This place seems cool, but its sketchy and unfriendly. We showed up and folks made it clear we were unwelcome. Our van got super stuck and we had to pay $1000 pesos to a local to pull us out. The beach is rocky and it was windy every day. There are so many good places in Baja, I don't know why people stay here?... apparently for kite surfing, but La Ventana is a way better choice.

Report Check-In

4WD absolutely NOT needed - these people clearly don’t know how to air their tires down and drive on sand🤦‍♂️ - I’m in a 2wd promaster, Aired down to 25 front and back, piece of cake. Pilot error if you get stuck, plain and simple. AIR Down, simple concept, works like a charm.

Obvi area is safe and nice as previously described by others, long walk to town. Easy if you have an e-bike etc…

Not worth it. Did not feel safe here at all. Sketchy people (both locals and some gringos who look like they've been camped here for years and are trashing the place/not welcoming at all to transient campers/threatening). Got chased by dogs who live in a house at the road side of the arroyo & guard the road to the beach there all day every day. AND the beach isn't even worth it!! Super rocky and covered in debris. Sliced my foot trying to go for a swim. There are much nicer beaches just up the way in El Cardonal, La Ventana, and south in Cabo Pulmo. I could not get consistent cell service here. A friend had their kiteboarding gear stolen here out of their van as well. Overall, definitely not worth a stop.

Great beach and easy to camp! We had 4WD and a travel trailer and did find parking right at the beach. Perfect cell service with at&t

As described,.  I read descriptions to late..
I'm in a 2wd heavy promaster.
Go only on the main tracks and plan your stops carefully and you'll have 1/2 a chance at not getting stuck.
I Nearly got stuck 2x. once right beside the pavement.
Aired front down to 45 psi from 70. Then Stayed on main center trail.
Found a spot 1/2 way to the pavement a few yards off the center sand road.  we'll see if I get out. I could prob borrow some sand ladders if needed. Lots of rigs here.
   stay was great otherwise.

Report Check-In

Be careful! We got terribly stuck on the way down with our 2WD truck camper! Lokal expats pulled us out.

Report Check-In

Not for 2wd. Got stuck in the sand in our van. Luckily we had traction pads that got us right out. But definitely don't attempt without them or 4wd. Other than that, seems like a good place to camp.

Report Check-In

There are two arroyos with camping just north of Los Barriles: the first you could have all to yourself; the second just north of the campground is way more popular and often crowded. Both sites are infested with fat Americans and Canadians on quads. They do hit the town after sunset and are gone!

Report Check-In

Good spot to stay for a night. We were able to get in and park on the beach with our 2WD van, but be careful as there is a lot of softer spots for your tyres to sink in. There's plenty of spaces to choose from around here and a few fire rings with plenty of firewood, although we didn't have one as its pretty windy here. A few people passing by on walks ect but no other campers. Felt safe. Good Telcel phone service.

This is great to have found .until you stay a bit.The problem is Respect.
People bring there dogs(as I have)but feel because it’s free camping the don’t have to pick up after them. The flies are horrible, walk next door to the RV park, hardly any. That may be due to a over 50% dumping black water and 75+ dumping grey water. Its unfortunate that people can’t be more respectful of the land and ocean.
I’m sure they don’t treat there yard like this.
The Ocean is awesome, did some kayaking with a turtle.Rocky bring water shoes. No shade, but always windy so that great. If your going to camp bring a rack ,shovel,or gloves to clean up a spot.
Enjoy

Lots of snowbirds with permanent installation (shelters, water tank, solar pannels, wind turbine, etc.) They have all the best spots with view on the ocean. There is a lot of spots in the bushes though. Lots of noise (road nearby, ATV, moto, boat launching). Doable with 2WD but be carefull of the soft sand spot. Good for overnight stay.

Take the first dirt road after the rv park off of the frontage like dirt road. There a few Fulltime people but pretty quiet. We were right on the ocean. Got to see the whales come up for air right in front of us.

Just a part of the iOverlander spot Playa Norte free.

Dry Arroyo just North of Playa Norte RV Park. Stayed several nights, no problems fairly quiet. Road(s) fairly firm with some soft spots. Seems like a well known spot. Some guys came through and sold us pineapple pies and tamales. Longish walk to town.
