South Mineral Campground, located along South Mineral Creek, is one of the most popular campgrounds in the San Juan National Forest. The campground has 26 sites, all of which are first-come, first-serve. Most campsites are shaded and well-spaced thanks to spruce and fir trees. Some sites are handicapped accessible. Some sites have large parking areas.

Have stayed here twice in 2 years and it's fantastic every time. Lots of spots available but they fill up quickly. Right by the creek so the noise is fantastic and calming. No 4x4 needed.
Report Check-InCome down to the first campsite - big and busy but perfect for big rigs. Go short way further along and turn off to the right for the second site. Smaller but nice. Go over bridge and take next road to right into Sultan campsite. Could fit 6 RVs in here. Not suitable for big rigs or toads. We in a 24' RV and it's perfect. Solid packed ground but muddy as it's raining.
Report Check-InMultiple sites spaced out. There was some construction/maintenance going on but during normal hours and not too invasive.
Report Check-InA small pullout just before the Golden Horn campground. Several good spots for tents or you can just camp in your vehicle in the pullout. It is right alongside the stream looking up the valley at the big mountains. No cell phone service but Starlink worked great.
Report Check-InAlright place if your in a pinch. Absolutely overfilled. people camping right next to each other with 0 privacy.
Report Check-InGreat spot that’s right on the water. Very close to Silverton and other trails. I’m not sure on big rigs where we were. We have an R-pod and 4 door Jeep.
Report Check-InAmazing campsites along the river on 585. Several paid campsites as well. You can use the bathroom at the last campground across from the Ice Lakes Trailhead. They also have water. Hike the Ice Lakes and Island Lake Trail while you’re there. Most amazing hike!
