Stay was good, I stayed away from the crowds and stayed at one of the trailheads there - 2 other cars but both I guess stayed on the trail all night. Gorgeous views, great atmosphere, good place to bring our promaster.

The Forest Service is closing down camping and driving near the water and in areas that are flooded-which is illegal. The water is used for drinking, but it is getting polluted. Also, many bad actors have been driving over and destroying vegetation and small trees and destroying closures. Overuse and abuse are destroying this area. Expect more closures and restrictions as a result of this destruction. I.O. is contributing to the problem !

CLOSED, due to some van lifer catching the forest on fire. Thanks Van lifers, go home!

Many level spots along the lake, plenty of people were staying here. There are gravel parking lots closer to the main (paved) road and smaller spots further down a somewhat ragged gravel road. So you'll always be able to find something for your vehicle. Quiet and very dark at night.

On weekends it's overrun with loud crowds blasting their music. And then there are those annoying jet skis racing up and down while kids on paddleboards scream for help. saw jet skis pushing a duck family with little ones almost being run over by these maniacs. Jet skis should be outlawed here. period. Also dogs running loose chasing the same ducks. Spotted a dead goose along the shore probably a victim of some Rottweiler whose owners think that's just so cute. Outlaw dogs. Beyond that, a nice place.

Beautiful open landscape with the lake about 1/2 mile away. Some shade, quite busy but still peaceful. Fire pits, no toilets or water. Good Verizon. High altitude though.

Report Check-In

Potential camp spot on the lake. Decent fishing.

Report Check-In

Wonderful area with great spots! It's very busy, but there are plenty of camp spots, so just expect neighbors. This side of the lake is free, but beware that the other side is charged even for just day use, and it's heavily enforced. So don't expect to park somewhere for an hour without getting charged. 14 day limit posted

Plenty of dispersed camping spots here. Some trash. Quiet on a week day. Talked with ranger 8/10/21. She said it’s actually illegal to camp here but it hasn’t been enforced ever. She did say that this area will be closed to dispersed camping next season and changed to a developed campsite in 2022.

Beautiful spot! Once you get past the dam the road is a little rough, but no high clearance needed. Just take it slow and you’ll be fine. Plenty of spaces to choose from. Sections of the Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trail run right through so plenty of hiking to do!
