Description

Beautiful hike with great views from the top. Nice to get up out of the valley and see over the ridges. Although it is a very hardcore and tough hike, 16 plus km. The point is not the top, just nearby. We stopped because the route got pretty technical and we were happy with the views. Bring lots of water 2L pp and food, 8hr plus. Trail starts south of the bridge at Lago Falkner, across from the free camp.

A fantastic hike! Roughly 8 km out and back with around 1,000m of ascent. It takes around 6 hours and is well worth the effort, the views are magnificent.

The hike is relatively short in distance but is steep. The path is a bit scrambly at the top with bigger boulders but nothing technical.

The route is well sign-posted with arrows and red dots to follow and doesn’t required much nav. There are other paths winding off so worth keeping an eye for the red dots, particularly at the beginning and end when it’s a little less defined.

Even if you don’t make it to the top, doing the beginning of the hike is great fun! After an hour or so of walking you have fantastic views of the lakes and the terrain is varied and fun!

Honestly this thing really worth it. I am a big smoker and honestly yes it goes up a lot but it goes. The view is unobstructed just fantastic 360 °! I calculated the time and distance thanks to an application and I put 2h20 to get to the top with a lot of break to drink. And there is 3.87km up to the top. Take a really a bottle per person of 2L no less! And small traveler tip after this ascent you can go take a shower (well deserved) at the campsite just before "Lago Falkner" for 300peso per person. Enjoy the view it's really worth it!

Beautiful views, quite the scramble up here but worth the effort.

Just to clarify, this is a highpoint along the ridge on the way to Pacada Falkner, about 400m from the top. I believe Cerro Falkner is just over on the right hand side of you're looking down onto the lake you came from, the one which obviously sticks out above the horizon line.
amazing view regardless, though on a beautiful day I chose to continue the last 20 min to the top of Picada Falkner.
The total trip to Picada Falkner is 4.2km each way, so this would be about 7.5km return.

It's a pretty steep hike, but you don't have to walk all the way to the top. Around one hour walking up will already give you splendid views on both lakes and the surrounding mountains. From the free camp walk hundred meters on the road forwards Bariloche and then turn left at the sign.
