Description

Useful info: Here is where the road devides to the left or right. Either way is fine because it's a loop. DO THE LOOP!! it's awesome. It took me about 1.5 hours, but driving slowly and stopping for pics. The road doesn't need 4x4, but maybe a good engine because of the height. Not for big rigs since you enter a narrow road for awhile. It's cold at night: 0 centigrade , 32 F

2023: route has gotten worse, 4x4 recommended and high clearance necessary. Expect scratches from bushes from below and the sides. Took us more than 2 hours from the main road and back.
On the way here the road is blocked, because it goes over a farm field, but you have a bypass on the right.

Latest Check-Ins

We agree with the previous comment, the route must have gotten worse in the past few years, because we would really recommend a 4x4 and can't imagine Ford Transit with 16cm of clearance would do it now. We came with a 4x4 4runner and our clearance was on the limit, we set a lot of stones on the steep part, but we touched the ground on a couple of other parts. And our car still smells nice from all the bushes that we trimmed on the way - the north parth of the path is very overgrown. The southern is much easier, so if you don't have a suitable car, you can just do it there and back.

We did the loop with our Land Rover Defender 130 with a cab (3.6t), at sunset. We took the path on the right. The loop is super nice, and definitely worth doing. I would strongly recommand a 4wd.
I think the loop is not frequently used, as the vegetation start to grow on some parts of the track. The first climb is the most difficult one, as it as been dug by water.
Do it, you will remember!

We parked here and walked the loop as a little hike. Beautiful. Took a little over 2 hours with lots of stops for bird/viscacha watching.

Defiantly worth the detour, BUT:
We did the loop with a Ford Transit (2WD, 16cm clearance, 2,7t). Luckily we took the road to the left, because this way round it’s easier to pass some (2 in total) sketchy/steep parts. Touched the ground a few times, because of the loose stones.
Anyways: Do it!
No one around, besides the chinchillas.
