Description

Just checked papers, safety reflective vest and fire extinguisher.
Heading North. After 120 days in Argentina and Chile this was our second stop by police. We brought all papers they might ask: International driving license, passport, auto insurance, "green letter" which is the auto insurance to travel around Mercosur and Soapex to Chile.

Note Brazilians do not need passport in Mercosur, neither PID, but in order to avoid any disturbance on the road, we did it and at this stop, the officer got surprised and released us right away

Report Check-In

We knew the stops going north and south have given a bit of trouble to overlanders and are happy to report this was our first “shake down” of our entire 2 year trip!
We shipped our van and were stopped here in our Argentina Rental car where they checked everything in the vehicle.
They wanted to give us a ticket for not having a reflective safety vest, then for not having one vest per passenger. They asked how many pesos we had and we said we only use card and then we were let go without a ticket with the promise to buy a vest for each passenger in the vehicle.
*We travel with a reflective vest (and triangles) in our own vehicle and are confident the law only requires 1 reflective vest in the vehicle, this was just some people looking for a bit of fun in their day, and boy was it fun!

Report Check-In

They stopped us and searched for any mistakes.
I had to show : driver license, passport or ID, Insurance , TIP and safety pack.
You need 2 triangels, reflective vest, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and a metal tow bar !
See the picture.

A rope or anything else is not allowed.
We dont have it and they tried to charge me a fine. After 20min discussion we can leave without paying.
Its also not allowed to have staff over your bumper. So bikerack, sparewheels are maybe a problem.
After 3 months in Arg it was the only check in this case.
So be prepared.
