Description

EU -> TR: Big border with drive through immigration (if you have the E-visa online prior to arrival to Turkey).
For most EU citizens - 90days you don’t need visa. They check the vehicle papers and insurance a few meters ahead (building D3), and may or not request a customs vehicle check or even x-ray. They told us to drive into the customs hangar for a check but they didn't really look at the camper and we were free to go within a few minutes. Didn't receive any vehicle papers. They also didn't care about the dog. The border crossing was quick and painless.
TR -> BG: Can buy Europe Green Card insurance from kiosk just next to final exit gate into Bulgaria: 1 month, €54 for LC Troopy January ‘20. You can acquire green card prior leaving your country and don’t pay those guys extra fee. In Bulgaria you have to buy vignette, cheapest and most convenient can be purchased online - no printer required OR at any gas station along the highway.

Leaving Turkey towards Bulgaria. Turkish side very fast only passport stamping and no camping car verification. Bulgaria side payment of 6€ to disinfect the truck and no demand regarding covid not even vaccination certificate. we bought the vignette for roads in Bulgaria at the petrol station just over the border. I recommend buying at this place because all the steps are in several languages. different from the site where only the first step is in English.

TR - BG:
Exiting Turkey was easy.
You have to pay 5BGN (2,50€) for desinfection, your car is sprayed automatically. No card payment possible. Good we had some coins left in the ashstray! 😂 Motorbikes don’t have to pay but get a few drops of desinfectant…

Buying Green card insurance for Bulgaria and rest of Europe: 1 month, €54 for LC Troopy—surprisingly only 57€/3 months in 2022, really—open 24/7! Kiosk is 10m past very last Bulgaria customs exit gate. Since Bulgaria Immigration (or police?) wouldn’t return our PPs until we presented the Green card insurance, we just parked next to the last exit gate, walked to the kiosk, bought the insurance, and drove back to Immigration to get our PPs—you can drive up to the final exit (into Bulgaria) gate and back to Immigration without crossing to the “exiting Bulgaria” side. You can also buy your highway vignette at the kiosk on your right just after Bulgaria Customs luggage check—they take 20 USD for 1 month.

Turkey > Bulgaria crossing on a Sunday afternoon took 3 hours - endless cars waiting to cross with few staff to process everyone. Passengers don't need to exit the car. Toilets for 1 lev in car line up area of both sides and at duty free. ATM with Turkish Lira only near Turkish customs area/duty free. Make sure you have cash (lira, lev, euro) for the €3 disinfection fee on the Bulgaria side. Only cursory check of car interior. Bought vignette at Lukoil station a few kms after the Bulgaria border.

Entering Turkey from Bulgarian. German passport. We arrived at about 6:30am and there were already lot of cars but straight forward border. Really friendly people. First they ask for passports. Next stop at customs they check your registration and insurance (we have a green card) and here they decide of you have to go to the scanner. If so you drive to the scanner, if not they want to have a look in your car and that's it. All in all it took us about 30 minutes (most of it just waiting time). Everything really easy and efficient.

It took me about two hours to cross this border from Bulgaria to Turkey with an NL registered vehicle and passport. I had to take everything out of my car and go through the x ray scanner after waiting in line for an hour. After that I got told my car had to be searched again but was sent on my way when I returned to the x ray.
