Description

MODERATOR NOTE: This place requires a check-in to verify the ongoing issue

You will be stopped by a group of man looking quiet official from the far. They all wear some blue vest with korean letters on the front and back.
This made us suspicious and we asked for an ID. One of them showed us a fake ID, where we decided to stop and see what’s the problem.
They made us shut off the engine and called the driver outside. At first they wanted to see the documents, which we refused to give them. Afterwards they showed us stickers and printed out stuff (and some random buttons) for road tax, radio permission and so on. At first they wanted 75.000 Naira and after we said we don’t have that much, it suddenly was negotiable.
They really didn’t want to let us go, got aggressive as we mentioned the police. Don’t open the doors and the windows to far.
You simply can drive over the new bridge. There are official toll stations that weren’t in use yet. They are directly in front of the bridge.

Report Check-In

When we passed this place it was an official police checkpoint (like the hundreds of others). We were not stopped, but just waved through.

There are some permanent serpentine barriers in place here, so I am sure that anytime the actual police are not manning this checkpoint the “police” take over and extort bribes.

Definitely one of the more sketchy stretches of our Nigeria crossing.
