Main parking area may be inaccessible (gated) if trails are officially closed due to weather.

FATS trails and parking lot were closed but we followed the directions of another user and found a great spot down FS-662A. It's a very obvious clearing right off the road. We enjoyed a quiet Monday night alone. There is evidence that locals probably use this spot as well: a few beer bottles, fire ash. You could easily fit several vehicles in this spot. We had decent T-Mobile service.

Report Check-InAttempted to camp here two nights ago but the primary "Forks Area Trail System (FATS)" parking area was gated closed due to the trails being closed due to a weather-related closure (they close them when they are too wet to ride.)
I knew the trails were closed b/c I was following the FATS twitter feed, but didn't realize that meant the parking area would be inaccessible.
There's a Forest Service road just past the designated parking area, FS-662: as others have mentioned you can find some flat, open areas back there. If you go right shortly after you get on 662, onto 662-A, there's a large flat open area about a quarter mile from the main road. No facilities of any kind other than at the designated trailhead.

There is an old abandoned camp area that is now blocked off behind the parking lot, we just parked in the lot for the night. Quiet and nice trails
