Still OK
We got to the town at 5pm, went to see the birds fly in the cave. The workers there were the ones who sent us here to sleep, and said that if we didn't leave the town at night, we could go and see the birds leave the following morning with the same ticket (100$ per person).
Parking itself is free and feels safe.
Not very level and can be a bit noisy in the evening since you are on the road, but good enough for us
We stayed here on the side of the road that forks from the main road, uphill from the entrance. Asked some locals and they said no problem, just don't park at the bottom of the fork as trucks and buses use the intersection to turn around. Felt safe and quiet and the views were beautiful.
Note, the big space on the side of the road directly outside the entrance is roped off now and as far as I can tell only tent camping is available at the restaurant and inside the sanctuary. So for a van I think here is your only option if you drive all the way up.
Report Check-InPara acampar en la entrada al Sótano sobre la carretera a 100 mts subiendo, la primera casa del lado derecho. En la casa de Alberto, es gratis a voluntad del dinero que quieran darle.
Report Check-InThere is camping both in the Sotano Sanctuary as well as the restaurant next door, we stayed at the restaurant and camping fee was voluntary. They have 2 very friendly dogs that keep the property safe from other animals/people. Bathrooms and there is a shower though we didnt use it. There also is wifi that you can use, 7mxn for 1 hour or 20mxn for 5 hours. Camping at the Sanctuary is 40mxn no internet no bathrooms after sunset
