Description

A popular local tourist attraction that features a couple of “lechero” trees (named for its milky sap) purported to be the result of a forbidden romance between a princess and a commoner. Their tears filled the nearby Lago San Pablo, according to legend. Touching the lechero trees is supposed to be restorative, but that is probably due to the fact that it places you between the volcanoes Imbabura and Cotacachi with a panoramic view of the lake and the Otavalo Valley. We walked here as part of a self-guided walking tour from Hostal Curińan that also took in Parque del Condor raptor rescue centre and Peguche Waterfall. Google maps states the circuit takes about 2 1/2 hours on foot. The route is also possible by car.
It’s a peaceful and beautiful place.
