El Morro National Monument operates a nine-site campground year-round. Each site has a graveled tent pad, picnic table and ground grill for fires. During the warmer months, water is available in spigots. You are not allowed to fill up your RV at this site. Once the overnight low temperatures begin to reach freezing temperatures, water is turned off for the season. There are no hookups for RVs. The length limit on all motor homes is 27 feet overall. One site, #5, is handicapped accessible.
Sites are available by self-registration on a first-come, first-served basis (reservations not accepted). The campground occasionally fills up on weekends from May through September. El Morro National Monument no longer collects camping fees. Campsites are fee-free. The site is regularly patrolled by NPS Police. The closest town is Grant NM.
Fires are permitted in provided grills only. Please comply with any seasonal fire restrictions. Collection of firewood within the monument is prohibited, so bring firewood with you if you intend to have a campfire.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Just as others reported. I am here in mid October and the water is now off for winter. Self Registration when you enter the campground. I was lucky to grab the last site for the evening. They do allow a 14 day max limit.
Report Check-InGreat free campground , but only 9 sites. The hike is worth the stay too. Only a couple campers here now, got some sun and some snow! Lots of trees and sites spaced fairly well, tho many are not that level. Pit toilets clean. Water off at this time.
Report Check-InGreat free campground maintained by the National Park Service. The campground itself has water (turned off for freezing temps while we were here), bathroom, trash. The campsites all had tent pads but for those in vehicles there’s only a couple of flat spots. RV limit is 27 feet.
The National Monument itself is unique and interesting. The short two mile hike is definitely recommend.
Awesome spot. On a Wednesday night only us and 3 other campers. Has a few fresh water taps scattered around and plenty of trees around for shelter.
Report Check-Inwonderful free campground in the El Morro national monument. trails at the visitors center one which takes you around the mountain with hundreds of signatures from travelers thru the centuries. Also has some petroglyphs! And a tiny pool which supposedly is what drew travelers here over the years. The campground has lots of big trees for shade and magnificent views!! Paved roads, gravel spots with tables. Also lots of birds and other wildlife. Close to so many other wonderful things to do and see also. I stayed here two nights and 3 days. Don't miss seeing the wolves and the ice caves.
Report Check-InNice free camping in el morro monument. Table, fire pit, pit toilets, and garbage. Very quiet at night. No Verizon service. Water shut off this time of year, but can get some at the visitor center thurs-mon when open.
Report Check-InNice and clean. Super close to the visitor center for hikes around El Morro. Free. We easily found a nice level site for our Van and trailer. Quite. Would recommend.
