Beautiful little walk. Unfortunately this time of the year too risky to go to the end. Had to stop about 1.5km before the glacier because of snow/ice fields that covered rivers.
Road is a challenge, we needed to use lower gear and even lockers at one spot (but road is currently not maintained due to the strike).
Fun hike, the first section is nice in the woods, the second section is hike with loose gravel mostly. Nice glacier on top. We were able to leave our dog tied in the parking lot. Recommended
Report Check-Inbeautiful trail on a beautiful day. I could feel some vibration due to the volcano's activity. Pretty hard to reach the starting point. I had to stop 1.5km before the starting, the road is bad, and couldn't go any further with my Grand Nómade. The mistubishi Montero ahead of me nearly flipped when tried to go further , and slide in the deep deep tracks damaged by the rain.
Report Check-InGreat, wild place. Last 1.5km before and after the pass only by 4x4 due to deep washouts, might be impossible in wet conditions. We met people in AWD VAN and they weren't able to make it. Even so, it was one of the most enjoyable off-road in Chile so far. Possibility of camping.
If You are experienced, You can climb Volcán Villaraca from here by the southern route. Ice axe, crampons and rope is necessary because there are many crevasses on this side. It took us around 12h roundtrip (22km, 1700m uphill), we were the only ones on the trail. Highly recommended.
