Museum - Routa 40 | Tourist Attraction

Museum is open, but self guided and very small. It runs on donations. The museum is on the history of the navy and the lighthouse, and it is in Spanish. Nice model ships though.

The confiteria is nice and has a great view.

I was told in town that parking at the lighthouse overnight is permitted but not near the penguinera.

Olhando pelo mapa ficamos na dúvida se era realmente o local, mas como já estávamos na pinguinera decidimos conferir. É real! Tiramos a foto e depois que chegamos na cidade, com sinal de internet, confirmamos a informação.

Zero point on route 40. For enthusiasts come and stick your stickers on the sign in the middle of all traveler stickers. The track is full of large potholes over the last 30 kilometers. With our 4x4 truck we took 2 h15 to do the 130 km. You can also find a small free museum there. You have to come by route 40/1 which begins a little south of Rio Gallegos the other access track near the border is closed.

point zéro de la route 40. pour les passionnés venez coller votre stickers sur le panneau au milieu de tous les stickers de voyageurs. la piste est pleine de gros nids de poule sur les 30 derniers kilomètres. avec notre camion 4x4 nous avons mis 2 h15 pour faire les 130 km. vous pourrez aussi y trouver un petit musée gratuit. il faut venir par la route 40/1 qui commence un peu au sud de rio Gallegos l’autre piste d’accès proche de la frontière est fermée.

Just a place for sign pictures, worth the long washboard drive only if you go to see the penguins in the park

This IS THE SIGN! Here starts the Routa 40 - all the way up for the next 5'080 km. Further you can have a look at the naval museum (ask the Armada personel to open it for you). Nice visit as you see how (in the olden days) they measured out the Magellane passage over time) and way many of the ships sunk.
