SO much more pleasant than the lake park in town. Fairly busy in the day but we had the place to ourselves at night. No facilities but it’s utterly serene. Stayed for 4 nights over Easter weekend. Tinajas restaurant is excellent but a bit pricey. Some wonderful views across the lake.

Passamos 2 noites nesse lugar. É simplesmente incrível! Fica em frente ao lago, muito tranquilo e isolado. Apenas algumas pessoas passam diariamente, tiram algumas fotos e vão embora. Nenhuma facilidade por perto. Sinal 4G da Liberty.

We spent 2 nights at this place. It's simply incredible! It is in front of the lake, very quiet and isolated. Only a few people pass by daily, take a few photos and leave. No facilities nearby. Liberty 4G signal.

Firstly, this campsite is very beautiful and the sunset is amazing here- however, we had the worst sleep.

When we arrived there were already some locals enjoying the spot and a couple of wild horses also roaming around- which was lovely. As it got closer to the sunset hour, more locals joined (it was also a national holiday weekend in Costa Rica), and a couple of people on dirtbikes. We had plenty of space and enjoyed the views. Once it got dark, everyone left.

During the night it was so windy! We were in a rooftop tent and it constantly sounded like someone was unzipping the tent or felt like someone was climbing the ladders. At around 11pm/12am cars started to drive by for around 30 minutes and then leave (happened at least four times). It was a shame, as I've read that other people enjoyed staying here.

Report Check-In

Quiet and pleasant place at night. We came there on a Sunday and the day there are locals who come to enjoy the place. There are several places to park under the trees but it is not very high, with my 2.5m vehicle it was just. Nice sunset.

Report Check-In

Drove through here around 4pm and seemed very peaceful and beautiful. We are 2.8m high and wouldn’t have made it passed the first couple of spots without severely damaging some goiaba fruit trees. We needed an open sky for solar and starlink, but if we didn’t, we would have stayed here for sure.

incredible place with an Amazing view and a beautiful sunset. I recommand 100% this place.
We wasn't alone two Other tourist spend the night there but it was cool to talk with Other peoples about our trips.
A little bit windy but it was ok.

Report Check-In

Very windy! When setting up camp, the wind got so extreme that our tent almost flew away, so we had to leave for another spot. If the weather is good and you don’t mind the wind, it can be a nice place to see the lake and the volcano.

lugar perfecto para acampar.
no llega mucha gente, algunos locales.

Report Check-In

Nice, quiet site. During day some locals came to relax in the shady area. In night we were alone. Access is no problem in the dry season. We enjoyed to stay here.

Report Check-In

this place is unspectacular. it was extremely windy, the walk into town is too far, you have to stand higher up, otherwise there is too much of a gradient. The driveway is only ok for a 2WD in dry conditions. When we drove back after 1 night, it was wet and we almost got stuck. Due to many trees on the way, the car should not be higher than 2.50 m. All in all, no recommendation for us.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place but very very windy. The road there is a muddy road and at the end it has some very big and quite deep holes in it. We only have a 2WD and kept going because we have high clearance. I think you can make it easy with a 2WD if there’s no rain and the road is mostly dry.

Be careful when you get to the grassy area there are small trees with very low hanging branches. We arrived in the dark and were lucky
Police passed in the evening once (since Mexico we are always a bit wary of police) but they didn’t bother us and kind of gave a signal that they know we’re here and that they keep an eye on the place so we felt safe.

Absolutely beautiful with great view of the lake and the volcano in the distance, quiet at night and very windy. Perfect place to stay.

Report Check-In

We loved this spot!!! Right at the end of the peninsula there is a grassy space with a ton of trees. Beautiful view over the lake and very quiet. We felt very safe here compared to the wild camping spaces over by the Pacific coast. There is even a trash bag for garbage! A couple of cars came out at some point in the early morning but turned around and left.

We ended up staying here for four nights. And for three of those nights we were joined by other overlanders. It is a popular wildcamp and we can see why. As previously described, beautiful view of the volcano, pleasant warm waters to swim in and even a bin to drop your trash. We were there over the weekend and there were very few locals dropping by- all encounters were friendly.

Stayed 2 nights here, really peaceful and calm. Rainy and windy but just in some moments. Careful for the road if you're not 4x4. We manage but careful.

Report Check-In

Nice spot for camping. quiet but during the night a bit windy. really nice restaurant 300m away. a bit expensive but they also have cheaper (from 5000 C) options.

Report Check-In

Place as described. Perfect for one night. Very calm, the trees offer shade and a small protection from the rain and wind but since we sleep in the 4x4 it is not a problem. Easily accessible during dry season. We definitely recommend this place for wild camping!

great place by the lake. the short track from the town is easy, it's a bit steep in the town (gravel roads). no protection from wind. water level varies based on dam so watch out for soft edges and don't park too close. a few locals arrive during the day. great views.

As good as described. We had all the place for us:)
But at night it started to rain so much.. and in the morning was way too windy to make a breakfast 💨💨💨
For sure there also good and easy days too⛅️

Report Check-In

Great spot as described! Lots of fresh guayabas fresh from the trees! Check out the amazing view from the restaurant (has WiFi) up the street!

Report Check-In

Very nice spot. Lot of locals during the week end. But quiet, apart from one guy on its jetski 🥲

Report Check-In

Super nice spot. As described before. Good rest by the lake.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot by the water. Place to swim in Arenal and can watch the sunset and sunrise in peace away from the hoards of tourists. A few people drove up to see the sunset but left after. The road to it as mentioned is potholes and steep.

Report Check-In

awesome remote spot, could easily fit a few rigs in here. very exposed so we had to leave early in the heavy winds and rains.

Report Check-In

Very isolated little space accessed by continuing past the restaurant. We managed it in our 2WD in rainy season, a few massive pot holes but easily driven around. In order to even get to the restaurant you have to drive up a really steep unsealed hill, would have worries me if it had been raining. Beautiful views of the volcano in the morning.
