Description

Great place and very uncommon. 5 km of an impossible 4x4 track from the main road. If crossing the river bed was difficult then expect much the same for the next 5km (off road capable vehicle only). You will find a magnificent place on top of the surrounding mountains. Bucket showers (metal with provided fire wood for heating the water), toilets and running water with the campsites. The owner has a small mine of DIOPTASE and he is a great source of information about minerals and geology. Possible Himba village tour. Really beautiful view points and amazing sunsets. Everything on the camping is really ecological and rustic. Ideal spot for astronomy fans, 360 degrees of sky on top of the world. Must see !

Latest Check-Ins

we booked by mail few days before and validated for 150$ppn but it seems it never reached the tenant. also, Marius said new price for 2024 is 200$ppn... we had to pay 200 instead of the 150 initially mentioned.
we booked especially for the Himba tour, but no more at least at this time of year because they moved north due to too much dry.
hopefully the porcupines were there.
we were alone on the camp, very nice sites, fire donkey for hot water we have to light ourselves with own wood.
tenant sells wood for 60$ and beer can for 30$.

Very friendly people, lovely rustic campsite, beautiful stones and super cute porcupines. We paid 150ND pppn, payment only cash. There is no electricity at the campsite and the shower is old school. To get there, both ways (North and South) are equally bumpy with a typical 4x4 Toyota. We preferred the southern route, because you don't have the big dip in the riverbed at the start.

After all the discussion about the tracks to this camp we were concerned! But it was completely fine in our bakkie. We’ve driven far worse roads in Namibia…
North track coming in, a dry river crossing with steep banks, then a rocky track with narrow and a bit steep sections.
South track exiting, very wide and not so rocky or steep. Some ‘potholes’ in the track to avoid but probably an easier route for big rigs and less confident drivers.
Campsite - all has been said. Highlight is the porcupine feeding (let them know at reception if you want to join). Note no toilet paper or washing up/ laundry sink, so bring your own.
N$150 pppn. Cash only.

We stayed there one night. What an amazing place... The road to come here is tricky and you have to be careful if you want to avoid a flat tire but it's worth! Amazing view, you can literally enjoy the landscape using the ablutions. friendly people welcomed us. We had the chance of seeing porcupines, a family of 8, so nice and interesting creatures :). 150 pp per night.

Worth a stay for sure!

Spent 7 nights here to get some rest in this amazing place! if you like stunning views, star gazing, porcupines, simple but well kept infrastructure this is the place to go. I will definitely come back.

We took the south entrance with a 10t 9m 4x4 truck, please don’t do this too. Take the north route. Shorter and less trees. The south route can easily be done in a normal 4x4 but for trucks there are a LOT of trees closes to the ‘funky’ track. We spend a great day here looking at the mine and porcupines. Truly appreciate the time and effort Marius and team have put into the place. Super! Free WiFi and call coverage.

As we are driving a 5,5t camper, 3,6m high, we were worried about the comments concerning the road to get there. We had no problems at all! With a normal car I can't imagine what the difficulty should be. We had to watch out for the trees but that was it. Lovely campsite, nice owner, great to watch porcupines. The tour with Marius to the Himbas seems to be great, we just couldn't go, because a group had booked in advance. So if you go there, book the Himba tour too ;-)

great place to camp, worst drive up ever! NEVER come here with a big rig! 4x4 Okey but our 7 meter LivingStone had a very hard time climbing the rocks and defying big holes and curling around trees! worth to pay a visit to the mine! very interesting mine and owners! basic bucket shower very nice toilet with awesome view!

An absolute must! Entrance no problem. N$ 150 pp

very nice campsite, stunning view, road is ok, we have Hilux with roof tents and did not need 4x4, just drive slowly. Marius is a gentle person, Pit toilet clean and shower with a bucket perfect , porcupines came for diner at 8pm, amazing meeting ! and we went to Himba village with Marius, such an authentic expérience. we definitely recommand this campsite !

Report Check-In

Very nice and quiet campsites. But the road is extremely bad. Scratched my truck badly. Is the campsite worth the difficulty getting there? No. Not big rig friendly

Report Check-In

Turned up without a booking and were the only ones here. 150pppn. Make sure you don't arrive late and still want a shower as you have to light the fire for the donkey yourself. Interesting mine and lovely to see the porcupines. It rained heavily and the Swiss volunteers offered us to sit in a room in their house.

We had a great stay at the Camp Aussicht. We used both tracks (south and north) and it was no problem. It is a rustic campsite, but we really liked it. We also did the Himba tour with Marius. That was a very authentic tour and we can recommend it to everybody. Feeding the porcupines was fantastic! Marius is a very nice guy!

Report Check-In

Really nice campsite with a interesting owner. The view is amazing and the drive to the camp leads through a beautiful valley. In the evening you will be able to see porcupines.
No electricity at the sites. Very basic but in a stylish way. You can collect nice stones at the mine which is right below the camp.

Report Check-In

The road to and from the campsite was no problem for our Disco, nice stretch trough the valley driving up north again.
Campsite itself was basic / rustic, longdrops bit smelly and some bugs but with a view.
The sunset is beautiful and feeding the porcupines was quite a fun experience.

Report Check-In

Really nice place, Marius is great, the minerals are marvelous and the aussicht (view) splendid.

We arrived with a big rig from the south track, definitely not recommended! We will leave from northern track

Report Check-In

Great campsite on the side of a hill. All sites have own ablutions with great views. You have to fire up the donkey yourself for hot water. There is some firewood at each site. The owner Marius is very helpful and also offers tours to see the Himbas. He also offers dinner and breakfast if needed, but we had our own food so we did not take that offer. As mentioned in earlier posts you can go and look for minerals in the mine and keep what you find. Beautiful viewpoint at the top of the hill with a magnificent night sky. 150N$ pppn. Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

Beautifully situated campsite in a very remote location. I ripped a tire coming over the southern path. Which, by the way, might not be suitable for big rigs because of low branches.
The pitches have no electricity or lights and you have to light the donkey yourself to get hot water. Bucket shower but very clean. Sunsets and starry skies are fantastic. Price is still 130 N$ pppn. Dioptase, malachite, fluorite and azurite can all be found at the mine. You can keep what you find.
Porcupines are being fed every night at 18:30 but please ask to be present.

Report Check-In

Nice spot but the northern road (there are 2 roads) in is in terrible shape, if you struggle with crossing the dry river bed at the start then don't fall into the trap of thinking it all gets better, you still have a lot of challenges ahead.

Otherwise once you get there it's a well maintained site with lovely views and facilities.

130/person

Reference star on ioverlander map for the alternate good road to enter the campsite.
