Description

This campground is incredibly peaceful and idyllic! It's located inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, just 137 steps down the dunes to a gorgeous beach. There are 8 huge, private sites, surrounded by subtropical forest. Each one has a water tap, trash can, and braai/fireplace. No electricity, except in the ablutions, which are clean with hot water. Water is non-potable so you need to bring your own. Ladies at the gate sell firewood and handmade grass baskets & mats.
To get here, you will drive 45 km on gravel and sandy roads. For more adventure, you can drive from Kosi Bay on sandy tracks through the park. The rate through Nov 2017 is R124 per adult, 50% off for kids under 12. Plus a one-time park fee of R25 per adult, R25 per vehicle and R15 per child. On weekends and holidays, minimum charge per campsite is 4 adults.
Leatherback and loggerhead turtles nest here, and turtle viewing tours are available. The only other accommodation is the Thonga Beach Lodge next door, so there are few people on the beach in low season.
You can go to their website for directions and/or email [email protected] to confirm availability.

Latest Check-Ins

As others have said, the main draw here is the beautiful, wild beach (which is shared with the nearby Thonga beach lodge. Beware the big waves / current!). Other than that, it is a very peaceful campsite with shady spots equipped with braai, tap and bin. We couldn't find anywhere to do our washing up, and the ablutions were good but water was very dark

Report Check-In

Nice quiet place. Ablutions could use some maintenance. We did a turtle tour with a guide and made appointment at reception, but that turned out very disappointing. Guide did hardly speak English, had not the right equipment (red light). It was not as educational as promised and we didn’t see any turtle as well. So turtle tour not recommended. Do it somewhere else.

Secluded, shady campsites on the other side of the dunes - don't expect to see the beach. Can confirm the 137 steps downto the beach. The beach is the teason to camp here - the camp itself is equipped with what you need - fireplace, clean ablutions with hot showers.

Very niceTq and quite placeEa! Prices raised. We payed 977,- for the two of us including the conversation fee for three nights. You can go diving at the Tonga Lodge which is close by. The dives are really good but a little bit more expensive. Vodacom signal at the hill at the entrance. Everything else as said before.
