Description

Go all the way through town, take second left (when you see the yellow Mercado) and follow the rough dirt road out. You'll pass a few private roads and then come to an unmarked road, go left down that road (when we were there it had a sign pointing to la playa; look for a large boulder on the left). Several options from there, some with fire pits. Nice quiet spot. 2wd can make it but need to have some clearance. Some soft sand, close to waterfront. Not much
firewood on site.

Nice beach, can't compare to the other spots though, havn't been... but boy is the wind nasty! I have just spent 2 months in La Ventana for kitesurfing and NEVER has the van moved like this... and we left windows open for ventilation, the van is litterally full of sand, luckyly we have a dyson onboard 😅

Oh and we got stuck in a 2wd sprinter (all terrain tires) at the bottom when trying to turn around to back into a spot, but could easily get out by deflating the tires to 18psi, nothing to worry about. If i stayed on tracks I was ok, but wanted to get level and out of the tracks if some other vans arrived. Still surprised the green honda civic people are talking about made it here 😅

saw baby dolphins ! keep your eyes peeled for finding the turn off to this spot. lots of room ! great mini hiking around the old mining structure and up the hill on a trail. we did see two coyotes one early evening. hofemat (the beach military, so can't recall their true name) came by about every second day (one was 4am) just checked things out stayed maybe three mins and left. felt really safe here , just kept a closer eye on our pet with the coyotes. did have serious windy spurts but that seems to be this whole bay town. like serious wind !

Directions are easy to follow! Look for the big boulder on the left. A few bumpy rocks at the beginning but easy to navigate.

great place with Nice view on the Mountain.
felt safe ! we had a great night

Report Check-In

So far so good. Found a spot where starfish and shells circled a stone fire pit pretty much on the beach but above high tide. Dead dolphin a little north of us. Looks like it’s been there for a while. And we found the remains of a turtle to the south. Where there is wild life there is death. Coyotes were very much present too. Heard them around dusk then saw several passing by us.

Great place to spend a few days! Saw dolphins, rays, and more. Pretty sure we left our dogs e-collar remote here- if you find it we’d happily pay shipping and a finders fee!

Report Check-In

Great spot right on the beach with plenty of space. From the yellow mercado in town take a left and then continue until you see a unmarked road next to a big boulder. Follow that sand road until the first fork and then turn right, instead of continuing straight. We continued straight at the fork first and had to drive back since it was very sandy and not passable with our 2wd.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot and easy to access without 4x4. We aired down in our Promaster. Be sure to take the road on the right side towards the large hill (not straight towards the beach).

The winds are gnarly, and I would not recommend tent campers stay here. Winds come and go and it’s really lovely once they stop.

Dolphins swam by in the mornings. Be aware of the coyotes and a puma in the area that come out around 8 pm each night.

Report Check-In

Very nice, smaller and less busy than la gringa and more vegetation to block wind. The hike up cerro los angelitos is a big plus for this spot also. Met a local fisherman here that shared some pulpo and scallops he had just caught from this beach. Incredible. 2wd is fine just send it.

beautiful beach very quiet and peaceful, we were alone expect for a couple of hours in the evening when 3 americans came to fish. be cautious for glass on the beach

Report Check-In

There are lovely places with shade provided by smal trees just left side of the beach. Quiet… except sea birds fishing :-)

Report Check-In

Plenty of wild space just left side of the beach with shade as they are some small trees. Very quiet…. Except sea birds :-).

Report Check-In

It is okay but not amazing. There is a lot of broken glass everywhere, some trash as well. Also this is a popular place with locals, so there are always a few cars coming and going.

Great spot! We were the only ones here. Beautiful beach with lots of room for our dog to run around. There is a cool hiking trail that works around the hillside by the stone ruins. Great stay for a few days!

Great dry camping spot, easy to get to with the directions on here. Gorgeous sunrise and not too windy!!

Report Check-In

Great place, we stayed for one night. If you follow the instructions below, it is not hard to find. Access does not require 4WD, but please check the sand conditions prior to enter…

A few more quiet days at the Playa.
Though I gotta say, Bahia LA has some very uncustomary winds for Baja in the winter months. I now understand why the map book makes special note of the 'notorious westerlies',, though that's the thing, you can have a day with northerlies or southerlies or calm,, but then a 45 mph gusts from the west comes in every 10,20, 30 min! Something else!
... The hill here and mine site is a special place for the buzzards to soar. Sing to them! They seem to enjoy that, and respond, interact.
....Trees. Jeez, since I was here last month, one of the few trees in the campsite got yet another primary limb pulled off, for the momentary joy of being someone's fire. Poor thing only has one tendril of a limb left(photo). I'm sure it wasn't an overlander who did it, but let's be very careful to be finding our firewood a distance from popular campsites, and for gosh sakes let it be deadwood at least. <;~\

amazing place for sleeping, good dirty road, 2wd, safe, during the low tide you can find many shells, amazing sunrise but early shadow in the afternoon

So loving this place. Just spent a night at Campo Archelon, good place, and great to have a shower,,, but otherwise I'm on my way back to the playa. a second night of being battered by La Bay's 'notorious Westerly winds', as my mapbook refers,, I swear the playa has about the most wind protected area in all of Bahia Los Angeles,, at least as far as wester and souther winds go. There's actually being sent an unseasonably heavy rains the last few days, and I chose to stick it out there, under a couple of heavy tarps. it's only when I went into town did I realize the extent of the storm and winds that had been happening out in the rest of LA Bay area.
... the few locals who have visited for short periods, they've all been friendly. No weird guys with blue kayaks, just me and my turquoise one, lol.

Report Check-In

additional,, perhaps I'm giving away a great secret, but this place is 20% the distance at La Gringa is from facilities in town, and I was the only person over here, the beach beyond La grangea had half a dozen campers.

Report Check-In

I arrived into the BoLA area yesterday, and indeed the 'notorious strong westerlies' we're running, very different than the typical Norte winds of baja. It caught me by surprise the first night. I checked out La Gringa, then came down here at La Playa, and am very happy with it.
...Entry is to the north side of the 'moundain', allright access for 2wd, and one can tuck in against the hill ~100' from the water, and only get an occasional puff of the breeze.
...No sign of the weird guy with the blue kayak, but I'll keep an eye out since that report is so fresh. Hopefully nobody mistakes them for me, I do indeed have a dark turquoise kayak, alongside a white 14' boat on the roof.

So so pretty here and loved the beach and hiking. Brought our vintage trailer in with truck and doable. Have to put a WARNING here tho. My husband and I unfortunately had a bad situation with a local young male - he followed us on our hike and he was in his blue kayak, we thought it was odd how he approached us but brushed it off. Long story short he was too close for comfort through out the day, he was on foot but came back in a green Honda Civic in the evening and parked close by and we caught him masturbating in the car while watching us. He even moved to get closer to us. We walked up with our huge flashlight and caught him in the act pants down. We ended up leaving after yelling at him to leave Bc we knew we wouldn’t sleep comfortably. Hate to say but we had a bad feeling initially and it proved true. The man has a blue kayak he will try to rent to you, tattoos on his forearms and drives a green Honda Civic. Great place to camp but if you see this guy be aggressive in telling him to back off right away! He’s crazy.

Report Check-In

Quiet small beach with firepit, a small bumby road to get there but okay with a 2wd. But we prefered La Gringa beach

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, very secluded even though you’re close to town. Haven’t seen another soul yet. The water is crystal clear. Lots of bird life around. Sad about the rubbish. Also lots of beautiful sea shells. Feels very safe. Absolutely beautiful sunrise!

Report Check-In

Nice flat area hidden from a north blowing wind. A lot of broken glass around but beautiful sunrise in the morning

Report Check-In

Entrance has changed a bit from description. Do not turn at the ‘la Playa’ sign...if you see it at all. The sign is off to the left and is quite small. That road, while not blocked, is clearly closed.

Drive another 30-40 meters for the new road on the left, just before the boulder. Take this towards water and then take the first right.

Definitely need high clearance as there is a dry creek bed that is washed out. May need 4x4...we didn’t try in our 2wd.

We parked near entrance. Beautiful views, very quiet and felt safe.

Amazong place next to the beach as described. Beautiful .
The read is sandy so be carefull. Look for the sign that say “La Playa” instead of using google maps

Report Check-In

We stayed here for two nights - there was a concrete slab off to the right as you pull into the beach - we drove onto it and found it great for keeping sand free. Unfortunately there were bags of trash that were dumped near the beach and they're been ripped open. The water was awesome - warm and buoyant and clear. Along the beach it turns to rock and there were some very cool rocks with crystals. Loads of pelicans - and we only had a couple people visit the beach while we were there. Was peaceful and we slept with the doors open. Sad about the trash.

Report Check-In

Very nice and safe spot. Access is a bit hard. Go slow and at daylight. Try not to get really close to the beach with the car.

As described. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

enjoyed two peaceful days here! would highly recommend coming here if you want to be alone. beach is littered with shells and barely any trash.

Amazing spot on the beach. Thanks for the heads up !! Tranquillo and not too far from town if you need anything. Great :)
