Here you can get the Soat for Peru near the border without paying corrupt aduana and police. The shop is behind a blue gate next to a hostel and has a Movistar sign in the front. The name is LaPositiva. Coming from the aduana you enter the place Plaza 12 de Mayo and find it just on the beginning on the right side The owners name is Sandra. She is a friendly and helpful women. You can get the SOAT for one month or more. For a motor home big rig we had to chose furgoneta and payed 82.50 Soles for one month. Normaly the shop is opend daily between. 8.00 am and 10.00 pm. But you can also phone her :973619450 or find her in her house as we did when we asked other people in the hostel and in the street. You also can get free Wifi.
SOAT ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE BANK DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE SHOP. CHEAPER BUT ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ONE YEAR, NOT MONTHLY

Lots of SOAT insurance vendors around Plaza 2 De Mayo. Bought it at the Claro store (75 soles/30 days for a Toyota Land Cruiser) and a SIM card.

We wanted to buy at the Caja Arequipa but the women said us that it’s now impossible to sell insurance at foreigners.
So we went back to the aduana and explained us at the guy, who let us pass.

We bought our SOAT at the bank right next to it: wayyy cheaper, we paid 80sol for one whole year! Instead of 82.50 for 30 days in the small shop. Totally friendly guy in the bank🏦 took us 5minutes to get the piece of paper. Asked two times if it is the right thing for tourists and he assured us it is ;) we have a van, gmc safari and he needed to know the number of seats, copies of car docs. Our van was categorised as something with "panel"

Report Check-InShop was closed on Friday morning, nobody answered the phone. We went to Puno, got insurance there, very fast and friendly.
Report Check-InNo problems getting the insurance for our small van. Made a Photo of the pricelist, see attachment. For explaination: 1st row is normal car. 6th row is small van (VW T3 e.g.), below is big rig. Hope it helps a bit (couldn't take a better picture).
Report Check-InSandra is the most unreliable person we met so far. In order to get the insurance we contacted her in advance and agreed to meet Friday afternoon. So we planned our trip accordingly. When we reached her office and contacted her again she said that she went on vacation and will be back Sunday. Thanks a lot! So instead of leaving our car between the two borders for two days (and God knows whether she is back on Sunday ) we took a taxi to Puno. Worse she recommended going to Desaguadero to get insurance, but not knowing where exactly, only maybe they have insurance.

This is a place near to the border where you can get the SOAT for Peru. You can take a taxi or walk (2,5km). The owner Sandra a very friendly and helpful woman. She sold us the insurence for one month, but you even can take more.
All you need is the fotocopy of your passport and your car papers.
The shop is in the Plaza 12 de Mayo. It has a blue gate (movistar)and it's named LA POSITIVE. Normaly it is opend from 8.30 am to 10.00pm. You even have free WiFi. If it is closed you can call her: 973619450 or ask other people in the street. As we arrived it was closed but we found her house and she opened for us. With a motorhome big riga we payed 82,5 Sols for furgoneta. If you do it this way you don't have to pay the corrupt aduana or have to be afraid that the police catches you without insurance.
