Description

Free campsite right next to the Argentinian border control.
Large grass area with shelter under trees and bushes to shelter from wind if needed. Right on the lake with incredible views of Fitz Roy over the lake, watched the sunrise onto Fitz Roy.
River with drinkable water on the other side of the Carabineros.
No facilities, however there is a hut and one hiker asked the Carabineros to sleep in it because he was cold. No toilets so there are a few turds hiding around

Grassy area by the border control. There is a toilet and drinking water. Great view over the lake and Mt Fitzroy.

Nice free campsite close to border control. Toilets and drinking water available in hut next to border post. Beautiful views of FitzRoy across lake on a calm day. Sheltered area recommended if windy.

Large grass area east from the Gendarmerie station (which does entry-exit passport formalities, very relaxed). Can be windy so best to choose a sheltered area. Water from the creek west of the Gendarmerie. No open fires, no camping beyond the fence where the walk along the lake starts.
The boat comes Tue-Thu-Sat at 11 and sometimes at 3, sometimes other days if there are known passengers. It's USD50, not really overpriced is you take into account they don't work every day, the season is only about 4-5 months a year, sometimes they do the trip with just one paying passenger, and it's very remote so costs are high.

Report Check-In

It is worth to spend the night here instead of rushing for the boat. Quiet, amazing view, flat areas, enough room for lots of tents, some shelters from the wind, clean little stream, toilets behind the custom office, the lake, the Fitzy. No rain cover though.

Make sure you pitch your tent properly! It can be extremely windy! Nice views if it’s not cloudy and rainy... In that case, you won’t see a thing... :( Many horses around, so you know what you’ll find in the camping area...

great place, vieuw of mount Fitzroy, toilets behind the border patrol, drinkable water from river. Windy, but on the tree line there is some shelter.

Report Check-In

Nice area. Flat grass for tents and a wooded area for tarps/hammocks. A fun place to camp on the journey from Chile and hang out with the other travelers. Entering Argentina here is very very casual and easy. They didn’t check any of our bags or really ask us many questions.
