Something not right?

Description

This is a primitive site located along a forest road in Monongahela National Forest. The forest road is graded in sections, but is unimproved in other sections. Four-wheel drive may not be required, but is strongly recommended. The site is marked by a fire circle, and a large, deteriorating picnic table. There is room for roughly a half dozen vehicles, or a couple of modately-sized off-road campers. While we've never encountered other campers there, it is evidently a popular spot. It is a superb destination for hiking, biking, and exploring. There are a number of amazing waterfalls in the immediate vicinity.

Pretty spot, really only space for 1 medium sized rig. Plenty of room for tents. Like others said, very rough road, lots of pot holes, must cross an old culvert, would recommend high clearance and 4*4.

Large stone fire pit in a clearing with tall trees. Our favorite iOverlander spot to date after traveling east to west coast and back this summer. Challenging water crossing about a quarter mile before you reach the clearing.

Once you approach the off dirt road, you do need off road capabilities. There are tons of potholes and large boulders. But once you get there, very spacious and room for multiple rigs. Table is dismembered.

Nice spot for multiple rigs with stone fire ring. High clearance required do to washed out spots on the way to it. 4x4 needed if coming in from the east end of trail.

nice spot with fire ring. Walked 0.6 miles down to the site. Road was too rough to take my Ford Transit van down.

Did not stay at the site but checked it out for future stays. There is a fire ring present and a picnic table. The site is very spacious and could accommodate multiple tents and vehicles. Looks like it could get muddy after a rain and with all of the shade it will not dry out quickly. As someone else mentioned the road past the camp does get rough and the washout at Tub Run is impassible for most vehicles. There is a bypass around the washout but it is sketchy at best. I made it through with a modified Gladiator but at a 18-20° Roll Angle and on 3 wheels at times. There is not much of interest past the washout anyway.

Not a bad place. Was very buggy when I went. 4x4 is not necessary unless maybe after heavy rain, but higher clearance is recommended. As others have said it’s smooth for the first half mile and then it’s potholes everywhere. There is a nice viewing point half a mile past the camping spot as well. DO NOT continue past that viewpoint in a car. The potholes only get worse and you’ll eventually hit what I believe is called “Tub pass”, which is impossible to go through unless you’re in an ATV. It’s not a clearance issue as much as it looks like the trail has eroded/caved in and is too narrow to pass unless you can deal with a ~60 degree angle without tipping.

First half mile is graded nicely. Then is pothole city for the next half mile or so until camp. 4x4 with a lift helped me out getting here!

Report Check-In

Still good. High clearance vehicles for sure.

Excellent spot. The road conditions are not great getting to the location. You really need a 4x4. I recommend hiking down the road to a wonderful overlook. As others have stated this place appears to be used on the weekends. I would check conditions before you go. All the rain this week made things rather muddy and the river was very high behind the site.

Beutyfull place, quait at day and night, bad road 1km, requaired 4x4

Really peaceful place. Road in is in rough shape. High clearance required, 4WD if it has been raining. There's a creek crossing halfway that will test your approach/departure angles, so only shorter wheelbases recommended. We just barely made it in our 144" Sprinter 4x4. Otherwise it's as posted.

This place is beautiful! Pictures don’t do the location justice. We had an issue getting all the way to the picnic table/campsite due to some erosion on the road that was causing my van to bottom out. If you’re planning on going make sure you have plenty of ground clearance. Unless it’s very muddy I don’t think 4x4 is necessary but you do want to be in something tall enough to get over the rocky road with out leaving your oil pan or diff behind. Even though it’s off of a public road we didn’t see not one other person during our stay. If you like to get away and see beautiful sights this place is great.

This site is so magical, We were able to get a full size truck camper in with ease, a lot of rain made creek flow very swiftly, I was impressed!

Report Check-In

Great place in the mountains, right near a river. Well-established location for dinner and a fire. No bathroom, toilets, or shelter.
