Description

Soccer pitch/field behind the headquarters of Santa Maria Night Tours. This is part of a finca owned by Norman who let us camp for 2 nights for free as we did his night tour. He's not an 'established campground' per se, but listed as such as there is power, water, showers and toilets. He'd happily let other overlanders stay here, and maybe expect to pay 5 pp/pn. There really aren't any camp options in Santa Elena so we lucked out by asking Norman's help! Flat, quiet, cool campsite and right next to free walking trails into the cloud forest where we saw agoutis, opossums and a sloth!! About a mile to Santa Elena downtown. We walked in for groceries etc. but there are tiendas with limited stock closer by. Norman is super friendly and he also owns a Honda mechanic shop next door if you need any car/bike work done. We loved it here!
Price is now 10$ per person.

Nice place woth a big awning where you can stay under. We stayed here with a 4x4 with rooftop tent. We did the night tour so the camping is for free.
there is 2 toilets and 1 shower, a fridge, wifi for free, tables, lights and water.
You can refill you watertank if you have.
Different bins for recycling. Close to the road but it s still quiet.

Camping. Prices are going up. And it’s now 10$ per person or 6250 colones.

We stayed here for two nights and we absolutely loved it!
Our Ford E250 fit easily under the car port at the end of the soccer field- meaning a dry spot away from the street resulting in a great night sleep!
Amazing hot showers - a long haired camper girls dream ;)
Fridge, table, benches and light available and SO much space to dry your belongings staying in the misty dusty rainy beautiful Monteverde.

Be careful though, the grass on the soccer field was wet and muddy. Get enough speed to get to the carport to avoid getting stuck. No big deal but might be after heavy rain and without 4x4. The soil under the carport is gravel.

Nice to have a covered area during the rain! We did the night walk, which was very average if you’re not a beginner. Hot shower was a treat! The facilities were pretty dirty when we were there, but still usable. Keep an eye around the perimeter of the field at night for armadillos digging in the leaves!

Definitely a good place to explore Monteverde and arround. A lot of space and clean facilities.
Wifi is just close to the nighthike office.
We also did the night hike wich we can recommend. If you do this you will get one night for free. The brewery is super close and worth to visit.

Nice place if you want to stay in Santa Elena. Clean bathroom (hot Shower) and electricity. We paid 10 USD for two persons one night, littlebit expensive. If you like to have a awesome view over Monteverde highly recommend La Colina!

Absolutely loved our time at Finca Santa Maria! Set our tent up next to the bathrooms and parked the bikes in under the car park. Felt very safe and walkable into town / across the street from a brewery. The site has a sink area, counter space, two bathrooms and best yet, a HOT water shower. Very nice on the cooler windier days in Monteverde. Loved the family that runs the place.

So far, this is the best campsite we've visited in Costa Rica. Clean bathrooms, safe area, energy, lighting, hot water. We really recommend it.

We really liked this place. It is a great place to stay in Monteverde. It's about a 15 minute walk to downtown. There is electricity, power and a small kitchen area in addition to warm showers and clean bathrooms. It's a small soccer field surrounded by the forest. Some of the night tour guides (which we'd recommend booking with the owners of the campground) do walk across the soccer field but that didn't bother us. The owners are friendly.

10$/pers./nuit
Un peu cher mais il y a des toilettes, douche (eau froide) et de l’électricité. Possibilité de faire un feu (bois fourni).

Now $10pp to camp. I think it is a little expensive for what it is. The bathroom is nice, but the hot water wasn’t working. No kitchen no WiFi. At night the night hikers cross near the campsite until 10pm. One night is free however if you do the night hike which is very cool.

Very nice place to stay in Monteverde! They also offer a night tour for 25 US, and they give you a free night in the awesome camping!

Report Check-In

As described. We did not take a tour but were allowed to camp for $5 per person. Electricity is available near the bathrooms. Nice spot.
