Something not right?

Description

Parking beside main road for Huembo.
Free and no facilities out here, but we were allowed to use the toilets and hot showers down in the reserve. This of course only if you pay the 25 soles entrance fee - but then you get to see the Marvelous Spatuletail Hummingbird.

Latest Check-Ins

We arrived in the afternoon to see the Marvelous Spatuletail. They have two places. One down the lodge: 40soles pp. And one higher up the hill: 30soles pp. For both places you have to go first to the lodge to pay. We went up the hill, because Santos (the owner) said there were males with two long tails feathers. At the lodge was a male with one long tail feather. At the end of the afternoon we asked if we could visit the next morning again and if we could stay the night behind the gate. That was no problem. We also could use the (not very clean) visitors bathroom with cold shower down the lodge. Indeed a lot of traffic during the night and cars are stopping for a toilet stop. So we would only sleep here behind the gate. Otherwise there are better spots with some more distance from the road. Good to know: July, August and September there are no males with long tails around the feeders.

Enjoy!

Spent one night out front, highway is very noisy with trucks all hours. Park hours are 7-5, closed on Sunday, also they randomly close to run errands or drive their children to/from school. If the gate is not chained just let yourself in and walk down to the house to pay, 25 soles per person. They will inform you about the different trails. We saw the Spatuletail at both hummingbird viewpoints but the one with the roofed sitting area was better. We spent over an hour and a half in the morning and another hour before lunch. Other visitors we met stayed into the afternoon and got a video of two Spatuletail at the same time. Great experience.
