Mauritania
Beautiful oasis only about 11k from main road and road is paved almost all the way here except for last mile which is a combo of hard piste and soft sand (our two Honda 125 motorcycles could manage it). Drive all the way to the end of the road to get to a beautiful oasis hidden in between two red sandstone cliffs. Camp here for 2000 UG pp/night, dinner was 2000 pp (lots of rice and delicious stew) and breakfast 1000 (stale bread and Nescafé). Can camp in the pre-setup Mauritanian style tents here but we decided to sleep in our own because of mosquitos. Warning, can be a bit hot and humid. Potable water from the porous rocks in the cliff. Latrines available but really gross. Definitely worth checking out if you're up here anyways!!
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
not sure why this place has been marked as closed, it's definitely still open.
just drive to the very end of the road and you'll find this oasis, you do have to walk the last few hundred metres. it costs 200 (per person) to visit the oasis for the day and another 300 (per person) if you want to sleep in one of the tents there.
If you have your own tent you can put it up for 200 a person I believe it was
Food is also available for about 200/300 a meal. the guy working here, Jamal, is absolutely lovely!
Western toilet available.
Also you can actually drink the water from the oasis, just ask Jamal and he'll show you where to get it from.
No wifi and no phone service at the oasis.
