going in the park : if you are not sure you want to sleep in Savute or if there is availability there (which change the number of days in the permit) you don't need to pay here at the gate but it is possible to get and pay the permit in Savuti camp.

Be careful of sharp rocks heading into the park. Flat tyres are no fun in this heat.

Opens 6am (staff from 0530), closes 7pm.
Fees:
Human - 120 pula pppd
Car (<3.5t) - 50 pula pd
Truck (3.5-7t) - 1000 pula pd (not a typo)
Truck (7t+) - 1500 pula pd

Staff might ask to look at papers but they were interested in actual weight not max weight so can probably get away with lower truck fee.

From this gate there is one road South to Savuti campsite with a waterhole on the way. Lots of animals but poor road, very sandy. This road then forks into the "sand ridge road" and the "marsh road". Both take you to Mababe gate. Staff say 3 hours but it took us 6 hours of rough driving excluding stops.

From here heading North you can reach Kasane, dog leg route is 'better' but very sandy. You almost definitely cannot reach this gate without a good 4x4.

If you are trying to leave through this gate and miss sunset you can camp at the gate no issue. A military truck comes through at 8pm to check the road, they are friendly and let us camp but not out of the gate.
