Russia
Easy border crossing. All done within one hour (arriving at 5:30pm)
Exiting Russia was only a stamp in the passport.
Entering Kazakhstan was also just a stamp in the passport. The Russian customs document for the car is also valid in Kazakhstan. We didn't have to pay anything on either side. The Kazakhstan insurance is just outside the border, see map for details.
The road is really bad (pothole in the tarmac) for the first 40km in Kazakhstan (average speed 30kmh).
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Entered Kazakhstan. Everyone very kind and friendly with us. The passenger is walking through the office. All very easy and quick!
Report Check-InExit Kazakhstan/ enter Russia. Kazakstan super easy, 15 min done. At the Russian border we had to wait half an hour in line, then a very quick search of the vehicule. There seemed to be something going on with our passports ( we have Romanian nationality), we didn't understand what seemed to be the problem, but they debated a lot about it. Still, they didn't ask us anything and after 20-30 minutes, we were ok to enter Russia. We had the paper of the temporary import of the car since last time we entered Russia, 3 months back and there was no need to make a new one (it's valid for one year). Also, right after the border, on the right side, there are a few insurance kiosks. For our 2.8 t Mercedes the insurance was 2600 rubla
Report Check-InEntry to Kazakhstan very easy, 1.5h with a queue of 10 cars in front. They were all very friendly and did not search our van.
Report Check-InEntering Kazakhstan.
Very easy and friendly. Took us only 20 minutes. Passengers have to take a separate border gate through the big house on the right and only the driver can stay with the car. Quick car check.
(As italians we didn‘t need a kazakh visa.)
Right after the border you can buy kazakh car insurances, sim cards and change money.
Entrance to Kazakhstan was very easy. People were curious and extremely kind. All was done within 20 minutes.
Report Check-InEasy crossing from Russia to Kazakhstan. But very slow. Took us 5 hours. We arrived at 17:00, left at 22:00. We’re Dutch so no visa was needed.
Report Check-InExit Kazakhstan was short and easy, quick car check and stamp out (you need your migration card, they collect it).
The night befor the crossing, we parked 50 meters befor the border area. Restaurant/Shop and pit toilets in the back available. There is some traffic, trucks may park over night too. But ok to sleep.
There is an alternative road to avoid the terrible stretch to Ganyushkino. Instead of the A-27, take the road south immediately after the border. It links a few villages before to join the A-27 again in Ganyushkino. It is asphalted and in pretty good condition.
