Chile
just park in front of the train station and walk here. quite a few old trains inclusiv steam trains. even if uyuni/ bolivia is better its worth a visit. we had not to pay anything.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The signs - and Google - send you down a dirt road and across two railroads to reach this cool outdoor museum. It is possible to stay on the main, paved road through Baquedano and park close to the museum. It would be a short walk across the tracks from there if you are short of time or prefer a quicker visit. By doing this, though, you would miss out on photographing and visiting three amazing wooden carts along the gravel road approach. Still free. Enjoy!
Report Check-Inat the train museum, it's free, there is no guide, but steam locomotives and carriages almost 100 years old that you can explore at your leisure. the place looks like a movie set. it’s very nice to visit. we recommend. we spent the night in front of the hangar, very quiet. if you talk a little with the train employees they will be able to tell you where to find water.
Well worth a visit. Big huge sign at the entrance. it's basically an old train station with locomotives inside.
The mechanic I spoke to next door said no problem drive right up to the entrance no problems.
These trains once went to boliva and up to the very north of Chile
Follow signs for Ferronor. Once there you can use the parking lots of the station (the ones marked "visitas"). You can also park on the public street northwest of the station but we felt safer here.
You can visit the big round metal building, there are some signs that say "acceso museo" leading to it but they're not very clear.
There's a deposit still in use that clearly says "Prohibido el ingreso", don't go there.
Finally, there are many abandoned wagons just laying on the railways, you can visit those too.
There are some people working here but no one in charge of the museum apparently, we just went right in (free).
Great place if you're into trains or photography. Otherwise it may not be of your interest as there is no information or guide.
Report Check-InGood luck to find the entrance of this museum... No signs and it all looks like an old depot. You are not supposed to enter the depot as it is private property. Only the round building with the steam locos is accessible. Really worth a visit if you like trains!
Report Check-Injust park in front of the train station and walk here. quite a few old trains inclusiv steam trains. even if uyuni/ bolivia is better its worth a visit. we had not to pay anything.
