You can drive from here to Palmwag passing by Hoanib river and Palmwag concession. It's a loooong way but beautiful. The first part (to arrive until the office and the part in Hoanib river) is in the sand, we saw a lot of elefants, girafes, oryx etc... amazing. After that part until exiting at Palmwag we didn't see a lot of animals (3 girafes, few springboxs). You drive in a desert beautiful landscape. The track is not complicated but really rocky sometimes. We did it 3 days (2 nights) but 3 nights could be better, the only problem is to find shade in Palmwag concession if you stop early in the afternoon... If you enter here, you payed 100N p.p.p.d + 100N p.d for the car, when you exit at Palmwag they will tell you that you have to pay because their price is 150N instead of 100N. We refused and they let us going.
Report Check-InWe checked in Palmwag and exited here the next day, all in all about 29 hours in the conservation area. We didnt pay extra. Very friendly staff.
The drive in the Hoanib river is beautiful but very dusty, with ground covered with ultra fine dust particules ! The wind was blowing in the same direction as us so that was like an epic dust storm chasing us. Was quite a nighmare as we dont have AC so windows down because of the heat ... Didnt see that since Mauritania.
Next km going toward Sesfontein are very bad, with some deep soft sand + deep ruts areas. Looks like a few cars got stuck... Would be very tricky without 4x4.
Still 100,- pp and for the car as well a 100,-. Very nice track along the Hoanib with desert elephants, giraffes, Oryx and springbok. Unfortunately we haven't seen lions.
Report Check-Instill 100 ppn + 100 per car
we were coming from purros (there a 3 options entering the park from direction purros) and exit in seisfontein. No problem to pay by exit.
Still N$100 pp and N$100 for car.
But, we came around 14.00 h and they wrote the permit for the next day and we could stay at Elephant Song campsite whole afternoon.
From there you can see upstream and downstream to spot wildlife. Early morning at first light we drove downstream.
100 per person plus 100 per car. Seemed official as we were given a receipt.
