Something not right?

Description

The only campsite at present in Gorongosa National Park. If you do not want to camp there are bungalows and rooms. There is a restaurant and small pool. Shady site, lots of trees. Ablutions are recently new (26-07-19)...hot water! The park is stunning, lots of potential. You are not allowed to self drive because of aggressive elephants that do not like humans due to civil war, but we highly recommend the organised game drives which are fairly reasonably priced and the guides are excellent. Camping is 10usd mets pppn and park fees for internationals are $20 a day, vehicles are free.

Very nice and clean campsite with a warm welcome. We were the only guest and even so the caretaker made a big campfire for us!
But all together the park is quite expensive. Entrance fee is per day, not for 24 hours. So we paid for two adults camping, entrance fee and a sunset and morning drive 274 US $!!! You are not allowed to drive by yourself!

Same experience as the last reviewer. Worth a visit to the park and great ablutions. Campsite has some ‘permanent’ tents and space for rooftop tents and ground tents. Can get a bit busy if it’s full. Very helpful staff. Be sure to arrive in the park before 18:00 otherwise you can pay an extra fee

Not the most scenic campsite but it's the only one in the park. Lots of baboons in camp but there is a camp attendant who tries his best to keep them away. Ablutions are great. Hot showers. You can't self drive in the park but the guided drives are not bad value. The park is amazing. Camping is 15ppn . park fees 20pp.

Spent 4 nights camping in Chitengo. The camp site I had is shaded on dirt, there are limited shaded spots though and there are some not very nice sites close to the ablutions with almost no shade. It seems the priority here has become the tented camp. There are power points. Communal fire and free fire wood at this stage. Unfortunately no self drives, so that makes it expensive to see the park. Ablutions are great!

Nice shady campsite with very new ablution block. Best hot shower in Southern Africa in our 4.5 months. 10usd pppn camping, 20usd pppd park fee. beautiful fever trees, aggressive elephants in park. Restaurant good but $$.

Could be so much better!

Campsite is large and sandy, but has good shade. The ablutions are lacking a lot of TLC and there is no hot water. Restaurant is overpriced and not great! We did two game drives, not allowed to sled drive and they were well worth it saw lion and other bug game plus amazing diversity of ecosystems. We paid $10 per person and $20 per person per night conservation fee. It is worth staying and seeing the national park, it’s just a shame this is your only option.

Pool was very good though and after a hot morning drive great to cool off in.

The campsite is not charming at all. Big sandy space with limited privacy. Avoid restaurant, overpriced and not tasty at all.
Unfortunately the only option inside the park.
