Description

Beautiful oasis river/lagoon side property, lush green palm trees, swim-able waters and bird life. 200 pesos a night for dry camping (open to negotiating). Very simple accommodations. Toilets flush now! BBQ pits and benches at some sites alongside the bank. Definitely a welcome stop after pretty beaches and desert terrain. Good swimming too!

Report Check-In

Lovely oasis managed by a friendly and conscientious family from Idaho, USA. We’re going to stay for several days in this remarkable lakeside date palm grove.

Report Check-In

My Family and I have been blessed to be the hosts of this wonderful Camp Site. Please let us know if you have any questions concerns or have any questions. 208-840-0968

Report Check-In

This place is paradise, and the owner couldn’t be more kind and welcoming. Bathrooms/ showers are clean, and he had Starlink wifi available during our stay.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot. Oasis vibes. Town is cute and you can get some nice taco’s! 200 pesos for a night. Free kayaks.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot just inside St. Ignacio.
200 Pesos per night.
Really nice after a day of driving.

Report Check-In

Spent one night here. $200pesos for 2 people. Showers & flush toilets. Nothing luxurious but nice when you haven’t showered for a couple of days. Plenty of hot water. Nice level spots along the waterfront. Free onsite kayaks. Several dogs running around but none bothered us with our dog. They all seemed friendly.

Report Check-In

No complaints for 200 mxn a night. Hot showers and flush toilet, could do with some improvement but they’re doing it. Prices will probably be higher once that happens. They’re looking at putting wifi in but none at the moment. Free kayaks to paddle the beautiful laguna. Great spot for motorcyclists and cyclists. Safe enough to leave your stuff and walk to the supermercado. Not much for food except for the hot dog stand down the street

Report Check-In

We enjoyed our stay. The campground needs some improvements, especially to the toilets. I suppose if campers keep coming perhaps that will help them to maintain better. The owner seems to be putting in a lot of work. We paddled down water and enjoyed the shade of the trees.

Report Check-In

Many spots available amongst palm trees. Locals kayaking and swimming after work and before dark. Despite looking empty when we showed up, Oscar was helpful once he was onsite.

Report Check-In

Decent sized plot of land next to the river. Bathrooms are working (toilets not very clean) including hot water for the outdoor showers. Quiet all throughout the day and night.

The owner is very friendly and makes delicious and very strong margaritas ;)

Report Check-In

Sergio, the new owner is super nice. This place is awesome, in the palm trees right by the river doesn't get much better. No signs yet, but drive in by the little house. They are working on building a bathroom. should be ready in a few weeks. They are also cleaning up from the hurricane. But wow loved this place. 200 peso per night. Only thing is if you have Starlink, pick your spot accordingly because of the palm trees. works fine for emails and general use, video mettings for work are hit or miss. Data signal was strong so we hot spotted for the meeting then switched back to starlink.

Report Check-In

Don Chons is open and a lady from across the street is collecting money for Sergio. She charged us 200p a night. I cleaned the mud out of the bathroom and scrubbed one toilet! It’s a flusher too! Bathroom is back in business! Either pack out your tp or if you’re feeling adventurous throw a match into the metal trash can.

Report Check-In

I really loved this “campground”. It looks abandoned, I wasn’t sure I was in the right place at first.
The gate was open, so I wandered through. Gorgeous views of the water. The ducks, birds, and wildlife sang to me all day. I was the only one here my entire stay. Solitude is so sweet.

Some trash left by other campers. No amenities, but I have a toilet, shower, and electric/water for cooking so it was a perfect campground for my setup. No trash cans, but there are large ones in the town center by the Mission San Ignacio, and so I disposed when I went to get coffee and breakfast.
Two dogs came by (one had a collar) but weren’t around for long.
Full bars Verizon and Telcel. Had a few work video calls without issue. Lots of shade and trees. My Starlink could not connect, even in an area that had access to a fairly open sky, likely due to the palms and rocky hill area across the water. I could have moved to an area that was a little more open to try it out, but I didn’t care that much to do so since cell service was great. :-)
No one came by to grab pesos at all, but I was prepared to pay.
So hard to leave… truly loved this spot!

Report Check-In

This place is really beautiful. We’d have happily stayed here if there were bathrooms available. Talked to the owner who was working on getting them back up and running, said he should be done by the weekend. Seemed like a really nice guy and told us about some other sites to try. It’s a shame that it got hit so hard by the hurricane because it seems like an amazing haven on the river. Would definitely try again if we’re back in San Ignacio!

Report Check-In

UPDATE: while the hurricane ravaged much of this low lying area, this camping area IS open...but with these caveats: there are NO facilities; the ground has been cleared with heavy equipment to clear away flood debris; there is no one there, but someone (Francina?) may or may not stop by to collect 300 pesos; the oasis like feeling is amazing.

Again, this site is open for business (if the gate is open). We drove in, parked beside the river, and paddled in kayaks amidst an amazing array of waterfowl. Once back, at dusk, the proprietor stopped by and collected money. Later a couple Westy's rolled in and did the same. All of this was also confirmed by the English-speaking owner of the adjacent yurt campground.

We loved this spot, especially as paddlers. But please remember to come prepared to deal with your trash/waste properly.

Closed due to Hurricane Kay that occurred mid-Sept 2022

Report Check-In

Nice spot on the Oasis. Friendly and helpful owner who speaks great English. Good telcel signal. Dog friendly. Pretty clean toilets with water buckets. Cold shower at the restaurant across the street.

Report Check-In

very basic but pretty. Looks like they are in the process of clear cutting to add more sites.

Report Check-In

A new owner who speaks English, what a relief for this gringo. He is working very hard to clean up the dead foliage because it was neglected for quite a while, evidently. I will look for the pit toilet and water tomorrow. The 200 pesos charged would have been high except that the restaurant across the street had a hot water wash area and a toilet that were both available 24 hours a day. The food was top notch, but they do not open until 1400, and closed Wednesdays.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Dry Camping.
Ignore it being called an RV park, which put me off, it's a couple of acres of date palms on the lagoon. No amenities, toilet but nasty. No electricity or water. Verizon works here. Opposite here is a restaurant (orange building) with great food and beers. 210 pesos for 3 tacos and 2 beers.
I was told camping here is 200 but no one came by. Expensive for what it is. It's a beautiful lagoon, safe, not busy at all which was great after everywhere is full of trailers and RVs ten feet apart.

Report Check-In

This is the best place to camp right at the river beauty-wise. That being said, 200 pesos (didn’t want to budge for price with us, maybe because it was Saturday) and the only toilet was covered in crap, no water in the bucket for flushing. We decided to spend the day at the day-area by the river down the road from here instead and sleep at the busy campsite near town that has hot showers and clean toilets for the same price.

Report Check-In

My favorite place to camp in San Ignacio. Been here half a dozen times. Super basic, but right on the water. Great for a swim or kayaking. No english spoken. Occasionally a few pieces of trash around but that depends on previous campers. Costs me 100p plus a beer. Use the money you saved to eat dinner at the fantastic Muralla Campestre restaurant across the street (closed Wednesdays).

Report Check-In

A real desert oasis. This wide river simply pops up out of the ground and runs only 2km before returning to its secret underground travels. Surrounded by a forest of palm trees, we camped directly on the river. Quiet at night, felt very safe and host was very nice. Paid 100 pesos but he started at 150. A great place to stay for the night. Simple bucket flush toilet and not much more.

My third visit
Close to everything
Nice spot

Report Check-In

Pin is not in the correct location but close. Driving southeast on Hwy 1 from Guerreo Negro turn right at sign to San Ignacio. Don Chon Campground is approximately 1 km down the road on the left. Campground is clean, full of Palm trees, excellent shade but not too great if you are a bigger rig and running completely off of solar as we couldn't get maneuvered into a full sun spot. Smaller rigs can pull right to the waters edge in full sun. Beautiful location. We did not use the washrooms or showers. There is a hose that you can use for water, I wouldn't drink it but it's fine for showers and dishes. We also used our own hose and filter when filling. No electrical hook-ups. We were charged 200 pesos a night which seams high according to the other reviews and given the fact that we are the only ones here. Entire Campground is sand, but not your regular beach sand, it's very fine and seems to get on and in everything. Watch for dogs as they seem to be everywhere and some were very aggressive, would not go into "downtown" by the mission with pets! We have a small dog and I would not trust having her on a leash there. Just driving around with the windows open a dog saw her and came charging at the vehicle barking, within seconds the truck was surrounded by dogs all barking. Was actually a little intimidating. Stayed one night and would definitely stay here again.

Report Check-In

This place is actually sign posted as RV Park Don Chon. Lagoon side spots shaded by date trees. We came here as Camping Petates down the road was full. Very similar places. Bucket flush toilets, no coverage on Verizon. Large sandy spots could fit any size rig. On site host who lives in the house by the gate. We walked to town for dinner and gate was closed but not locked when we returned. 120 pesos for the night.

Report Check-In

Great spot by the river. Hilda was very nice having us pick any spot we wanted. Place is a bit run down and feels forgotten, but if you don’t mind the minimal upkeep, the setting is stunning!

Report Check-In

Tried to stop here, but gate was locked, nobody home.

Report Check-In

Excellent place to stay. A little dirty, it has a lot of shade. 120 MXD The night. Little cellular signal. We do not use the bathrooms

Report Check-In

Was closed today. There was heavy rain in the area a couple of days ago and many places are flooded. Maybe that’s why it is closed. Or maybe they sold it as it is for sale. We stayed here in December and absolutely loved it. Beautiful oasis right next to the river

Report Check-In

Great cheap safe spot. Ended up staying 3 nights. Owner speaks no english but is very nice. Bucket toilets. The birds in the lagoon are amazing. Pet friendly.

Report Check-In

I see the campground is for sale. I wondering if something has happened and it is not being currently well maintained. It is indeed very lush, and on an ideal location along the River, but it felt a little more sketchy than the Petates on the other side of road, bridge and lagoon. If Petates wouldn’t have been there, I would have stayed.

Hello
Such a lovely place to park your motorhome for the night after the desert.
No problem with a 26' rv.
Place near the water avaible.
The village is nice but you need your vehicle to go.
100 pesos.
Croods approved.

Report Check-In

Still 100 pesos. Pin is now in correct location. Nice to park next to the river under the palm trees, a little of a surprise after a days driving through cactus:) we had the place to ourselves. We parked and found someone at the house later in the day to pay. Felt safe
Didn’t use the toilets. We were also able to fill our rv up with water, there is a tap next to the house, please ask first

Report Check-In

Nice little cheap campsite. We looked at El Petates and this one was nicer and further from the road. No trash. River is lovely and there’s a rope swing. Bathrooms are bucket flush and rough, but serviceable. 100 pesos per car.

Report Check-In

we cambe back here on our way north. it is still 100 pesos a night. nice shaded area with river view. we didnt swim in it tho..

Report Check-In

$100mxp/night. Stayed two nights. Quiet, even on weekends. Nice spots along river. Ducks floating around. The ground is dusty sand, which I don't like, but watering it worked out well. We used the bucket flush toilets, but don't plan on doing that until you see them because they're a bit disgusting.

On passe une très belle nuit, littéralement collé sur le bord de la lagune. Pour 100 pesos, 7$ Can. On ne peut demander mieux.

Nothing extra to say. Absolute amazing spot, good swimming and a lot of ducks

Report Check-In

Good place to spend a day or two resting from travelling.
It’s next to the river and you get to see a few birds.
Pit toilets are OK.
A bit dusty next to the river.

Report Check-In

very nice place, an idillic spot, an oasis after the desert. no electricity but you can get water and the camp is along a river where you can also swim in. 100peso/night.

Report Check-In

100 pesos / night like other folks have said. It’s a lovely spot right on water with plenty of shade from the palms.

We walked up to the main hwy the evening and got beers from the grocery store and a quesadilla from a local stand across from Pemex

Report Check-In

As previously described. Quiet, idyllic spot by the river. My dogs swam to their heart's content. It is dusty but understandable this time of year. Only one other party here and low and behold, we are both from the same area in BC! Paid 100 pesos. Didn't bother checking out the toilet.

Report Check-In

Great sites by the river and very quiet. Toilets? Don’t go there...we will use our porta potty! River and birds are beautiful. Probably the time of year but there was 3” of dust everywhere. All that said we will return because this place is quiet, on the river and authentically Mexican. You can buy dates from the owner for very little.

Report Check-In

Beautiful oasis-like spot. Felt safe. Gate was closed but unlocked, so we went in and set up camp. Owner came by at dusk and was very nice. 100 pesos. Quiet after 8 except for the occasional semi-truck on Hwy 1. Lots of ducks and dates.

Report Check-In

We paid 100 mex for 1 night. The place is nice, next to a river and full of palm trees. Toilets were full of spiders so we couldnt use them.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place near the river. Lots of palmtrees, with beautiful views. Really loved the place. No mud/signs of hurricane. Some signs of fire on the palmtrees. Bucket toilets, not really clean but okay. Paid 100 pesos for 1 night.

Report Check-In

Good place near the river. 100 pesos. no toilet. no wifi. no shower.

Report Check-In

Lots of bugs because of the unswimmable water nearby. One night was enough

Report Check-In

Pretty trashed, probably from the hurricane? No one there. We stopped a guy passing on a horse who said we could stay there and he would tell the owners. But we went in and decided not to stay. Even our 4×4 van could not get into any of the spots. Lagoon super muddy. Tons of bugs.

Report Check-In

seems badly damaged by hurricane. lots of mud and debris. gate was closed with string but we saw one van inside and joined them. left so one money near small office.

toilet with bucket flush but nothing else. water seemed quite muddy and most camp spots too muddy or sandy to reach.

good tacos up the main road across from pemex.

slow cell signal

nice shady trees on river

Report Check-In

great place, lots of shadows, paid 80 pesos, pit toilet no showers no electricty either wifi. good for swiming in the lagoon and hang your hammock!

Report Check-In

Nice place. Still 100 for two. We stayed. Doesn't look like a RV Park. Thats good. Very good. Some moderate music in the weekend during afternoon hours. Very quiet after 8 PM. Stayed for 2 nights and came back later. We didn't feel the urge to discuss the price here. Waterhose at the entrance available to fill up.

Report Check-In

Very nice and quiet by the river. Refreshing compare to the Mar de Cortez side !

Report Check-In

Beautiful relaxing place. We camped right at the river in between palm trees. They asked for 100 Mxn but we negotiate to 80 pesos. People are very friendly. No wifi, no hook ups. We would stay here again.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot. Only one other van here for the night. No one was around when we came in so we chose a spot and backed right up to the lagoon where there is a rope swing. Still $80MXN a night. Toilets flushed by way of water bucket. Vegetation looks great and though there are signs of the fire, it's thriving and beautiful. We spent the afternoon swinging into the lagoon on the rope swing and swimming. Perfect spot for a warm afternoon to swim and relax.

directly to the river. difficult to find a leveled spot. on the weekend crowded with a family reunion, so a lot of trash. 80pesos for a RV

Report Check-In

Quiet and cozy with water... by the river. 80m$

Report Check-In

80 pesos, stayed one night and left in the morning. Charred palm trees, but the oasis location is quite nice, especially once the vegetation has a chance to recuperate from the fire

Report Check-In

Good stop over in between Guerrero Negro (Pacific) & Santa Rosalia (Mar de Cortez). Nothing special. A recent fire burnt most of the palm trees in the camp. Nice & quiet family run place. 80 pesos per night. Toilets with buckets only.

Report Check-In

San Ignacio update!! There was a wildfire through the palms a couple weeks ago. Apparently everyone was okay but a lot of damage at the campgrounds on the river. Half of Don Chon's lot was pretty charred and the plumbing melted on the toilets. The next door B&B lost 3 yurts. Los Petates was damaged too but still has toilets that are flushed with a bucket. Showers didn't seem to work. We decided to push on and didn't stay here. Hopefully they got some rain last week. Is it a beautiful place.

Report Check-In

Great spot by the lagoon. Some locals kids made some noise on a Saturday night but we parked on the other side of the camp so it wasn't bad. Cool oasis area with lots of palms and spots close to the calm water.
