Description

A beautiful place. Postcard stuff. Apparently also with good surf. Open beaches with local fishermen and Old Hotel (abandoned) very close for photos and sunset.

Just ask for Rito.

Latest Check-Ins

It was a nice stay directly on the beach at Rito's place. Very quiet and friendly village. We bought an enormous fish with one of the fishermen. Nice walk on the rocks along the coast.
Wm
Rito is now building a small lodge just near the campsite, with 3 huts. Opening this end of December 2023. So you can enjoy the (really basic but cheap) camp place or the comfortable lodge just on front of the ocean. Track to reach this point is sometimes difficult for a truck because it's narrow and soft sand at the end. Need 4x4. No phone signal, really small shops in the village.

We had the best time staying at Pomene Village Camp (350mts pppn)! If you love to experience local village and beach life in Moz, than this is where you should go! Rito (the grandson of Chief Satane) is hosting the campsite at the moment and tbh he was the best host! He speaks good English and makes sure his guests are not missing out on anything. He arranged fresh bread for us in the mornings, fresh coconuts from his own palms during the day, and accompanied us to show the stunning blowholes and the lighthouse. He also invited us to have fish-dinner at his place (400mts pp). The campsite is right at the beautiful Pomene beach, and even though the facilities are super basic (shower etc), we thought it was absolutely worth it!

We came to Pomene and stayed at the local village campsite for two nights and would have loved to stay longer! Beautiful beach and the friendliest people! Satane unfortunately was in hospital, but his grandson Rito who lives right next to the camping spot was very welcoming and helpful. He organized shrimps to cook from the fishermen and taught us how to make coconut rice. And he came with us on a walk through the village and to the shipwreck and blow holes. Unfortunately, cyclone Freddy has hit this area very badly! The campsite was partly destroyed as well as many huts in the village. If you have the time and like the local experience, definitely go to this beautiful place and support the local community.

We stayed here for 1 night and really enjoyed it. It’s basic but an idyllic setting and nobody ever pestered us, a nice change compared to some more popular places we’ve been to. The owner was very friendly. This, and Morrungulo, were our favourite beaches in Moz. Only issue was a T-shirt that we left out to dry overnight got stolen.

We have camped here for 2 nights… an absolutely delightful location. The new contact person is Ernesto +258 42320489 who is in charge of the campsite. It has to be said though that this place is not clean. There is a toilet, with bucket flush. There is no shower, no running water and the place is generally delapidated… no roof on the toilet building and poorly maintained. The people here need empowering… if they kept it a bit nicer, people would be happier to pay the price they ask, which is 400mts pppn. We had a lovely chat with them about it, and maybe if everyone could do the same it could potentially be a really decent place to camp.

TO ADMIN: This place is open! Please correct it.

Very nice to have a campsite directly on the beachfront! The place is simple of course but has a proper shelter for rain and sun, a tap, simple cold shower and flush toilets. Pomene region is really worth a visit! The tiny village still has traditional cute houses and people are the kindest. One of the villagers bakes bread that were the best we had in Mozambique ( they were more expensive than usual but it's understandable since it's a long road to get here!) The rock pools are really nice to chill in and has some impressive blowholes nearby. Those are not too far from this campsite. We paid 300MZN ppn which we didn't negotiate since it's the first campsite initiative that's owned by people from the community that we see in Mozambique and we know they are really struggling with lack of tourists. Vodacom signal is ok but quite unstable.

There is a shower and a toilet with a shaded area.
When I arrived I had a look around but it was dilapidated and I could also hear the local Bar. They wanted 500mts pp but I didn't end up staying.

This place is permanently closed.

Camping is 500mt a night (negotiation possible). Place right on the beach with a little shelter, cold shower and a western toilet. Ask for Satane, the village chief, at the local bar to show you the location.

This is a wonderful place, right on the beach which is paradise. You have a shelter, toilets and shower. It is located next to a fishermen village where you will make nice and authentic encounters. Rito is very welcoming and friendly. Very much recommended place !

The guy who showed us the spot offered the price of 250MT pppn and then upped it to 300MT pppn 5 minutes later. It took him 24hrs to give us change and several reminders. We only got money back because we were paying for second night. The first spot was full of plastic and not cleaned in a while but the second one from the photo was better. The spot is in deep sand. There is no ablutions now at all and no running water. People in the village selling beer at tourist price (even though lower price displayed). Beach is nice with small pools, water very clear and warm. Nearby old hotel is great for photos at sunset. Come prepared with your own food and water as not much available in the village. Main pay off is that you are located directly on the beach and not many vendors come to disturb.

We arrived in the dark and the villagers were very accommodating and helpful. We parked up almost on the beach for equivalent of 250MT(€4pp/pn). There's an entrance fee for the nature reserve, which is 400MT (€6pp) + the same for the car. The road is definitely 4x4, a stunning orange soil road surrounded by nature. Take a walk on the beach and see the glorious milky way, so clear as if you could touch it!

Report Check-In

Only camping option in Pomene unfortunately.

The place is nice. But right next to the village. With the occasional music and crying baby.

There is a toilet with running water and sort of a shower but i wouldnt use it. It is very run down. Taps rusting away etc.

Nice shady hut to sit away from the sun and to cook in.
The location to put the tent up itself views over the beach and the old hotel. Very beautiful.

Price now 250mtz pppn

Wonderful place directly at the beach. As said before, it is owned by the local chief. The campsite keeper is very friendly and lives with his family next to one of the two campsites. You can get coconut water, coconut milk (fantastic for cooking), wood and everything which is available in the village from him. Everything quite cheap. The beach is wonderful but some plastic around. Tried to explain some locals the problem with the plastic. Maybe it helps a little. But anyway one of our favorite places in southern part of Africa!

Road is now much better, a sandy dirt track leads to the village. Last 10km or so very sandy. Beware that the park entrance fee is now 400 per car and 400 per person so 1200 if you are a couple. Beach amazing, 2 new lodges recently opened up as well, one abandoned lodge with huge potential. There are some natural jacuzzis, a lagoon, caves only low tide, a couple of beaches and a very friendly village. You see whales this time of the year as well. Paradise postcard indeed. I liked this place much more than Tofo or Ponta de Ouro, but be self-sufficient, only really basic stuff for sale. You’ll have the place to yourself! Worth the 100km detour and worth staying at least 2-3 nights! Camping with Sathane 200 MET pppn right on the beach. Simple shower and toilet in a hut. When you arrive in the village, turn left, then left again until you see a sign “Welcome to Pomene”.
