Cars can drive any time and don't have to wait for the green light. Trucks have to wait. The tunnel is too narrow for two trucks.
I would not go through this tunnel by bicycle. If it looks ok at first, the air becomes very thick and bad in the middle, especially because of the trucks going up hill and creating terrible fumes. The tunnel is supposedly lit, but it is not always working. Anyhow, visibility is always very limited. Alternating traffic for trucks as it is too narrow. We saw an alternative bypass road (more uphill...), otherwise you should really get a ride from truckers.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Coming from the south we had to wait 30-45 minutes. Both sides get alternated passage because construction works inside the tunnel. We didn't get a ticket or anything but had to pay 438 SOM on the north side checkpoint.
Report Check-InBe ready to pay a foreigner price on the bottom of the road. Between 10US$ for a car and 60US$ for trucks>10T
Report Check-InAs described. The air is pretty spicy, I wouldn't do it on a bicycle. Not as bad as the Anzob tunnel though.
Report Check-InCars can drive through the tunnel any time, even if the light is on red. Trucks have to wait until the light switches to green. The tunnel is too narrow for two trucks to drive past each other. The tunnel is terrible: bad light, fumes, potholes, etc. I would not do it on a bicycle.
Report Check-InWe cycled through the tunnel. Traffic seemed very well controlled by signal lights and police. They seem to be alternating trucks from either end of the tunnel and while we were riding through, they didn't allow any trucks to pass during the 10 minutes it took us to ride up the hill from Bishkek side out the other end. The tunnel was lit throughout and though there was some dust and smog, certainly not the worse tunnel we have ever ridden. the tunnel has rough surface.
Report Check-InTunnel is lit now, but still filled with blue exhaust smoke. Absolute chaos on the Biskek side: everyone is skipping the queue. Tunnel is fine for cars like a Defender, we didnt had to wait in the truck queue.
Report Check-InDo NOT enter this by bicycle! If your car is wider than an average car you have to queue for the alternating truck traffic, do not skip the queue (as we did :-( as this creates dangerous situations in the smogfilled tunnel and you will be fined when leaving the tunnel!
Report Check-InNo problem for cars however I would not go through this tunnel by bicycle. If it looks ok at first, the air becomes very thick and bad in the middle, especially because of the trucks going up hill and creating terrible fumes. The tunnel is supposedly lit, but it wasn't working and visibility was very limited. Alternating traffic for trucks as it is too narrow.
