Description

Unbelievable views, can drive up only if you have very trustworthy 4x4 it’s very steep and muddy, even in “dry season”. Very worth it. Can walk up the road and park at Bermejo Square marked on the map.

Unbelievable views, like others said, small mirador but the views are spectacular. I would not advise coming up to the top in your vehicle unless you have a really trustworthy 4x4. The road isn’t too terrible but it’s very steep and even now in the dry season the last 2-3kms were insanely muddy. I parked at Bermejo square and walked up. 1 hour and a half to walk up. 1 hour to walk back down.

The entrance to the path that leads you to Mirador Volcanes is the one after the black letters (view pictures). The path it’s a dirt road full of holes and a bit muddy after rain so we parked the van in Bermejo’s square and did it by foot; it took us about an 1h30 to go up until the mirador and an 1h to go down. Probably doable with a 4x4 if you wouldn’t like to walk. The path is nothing interesting but the views at the mirador are breathtaking, totally recommended.
If you don’t feel to leave the camper alone we saw a parking lot for 20bolivianos next to the entrance of the trail.

The road is closed by a fence. A neighbor tell me it's a private property and we need a reservation. Moreover the dirty road looks very bad.

From the road which cross Bermejo just take the dirt road where the sign "refugio los volcanes" is. After around 20 min driving you will arrived to flat level spot where there is a small tiny house with gas pipeline on your right, we suggest you to park here as after the road becomes tiny and tiny and there was some huge rockfall we no way of turning back. From this point is only 10 min easy walk. So follow the road on your right until you will start to see "los volcanes" and the entrance to el refugio. just climb a bit along the pipeline to have all the view over it.

The weather is changing every 10minutes so just be patient it really really worth it, on our favorite views since we start our trip in south america.

Notes that the road is pretty bad, if ot rain or rained 4x4 with high clearance needed, if dry probably ok for 2wd with high clearance.

enjoy

This mirador is not the one where you go if you take the "refugio los Volcanos" track ; we think that this last one is situated where the "practicingforretirement.com" went.
This point marks the mirador on the way to the community Los Volcanes (little track from the center of the village). You have to pass a river on bare foot, pass 2 gates and at the third one, find a little path uphill to the mirador (1h30 walk). It's a bit tricky so it's easier with the guide Vicente to explain it right. You can go down from the miradors by the "Laguna Volcan" which is really beautiful. It's at the golf resort. If you start the walk from the golf, you have to pay 10Bs/pps to enter. We did it from the village to the golf and did not pay anything. Really nice walk with beautiful views on the Volcanes Park.
