Dear Overland community,
We just wanted to respond to feedback regarding our ablutions being stretched when group overland trucks visit (-: We don't accept random large groups on overland tour buses, we work closely with only one reputable overland tour company, mostly catering to a more mature market, and generally the bulk of the guests are accommodated in our chalets not using the campsite ablutions, this company books at least 12 months in advance, and visits us on average 2 times per month for 2 nights and as such we would be more than happy to share with you the dates they will be visiting us should you not wish for this to coincide with your visit. We do our upmost to not overcrowd our campsite and facilities, and advise booking (-: Please feel free to contact us on

We look forward to welcoming you at Ngala Beach Lodge (-:

Report Check-In

one of the best camping places we had in the last to mounth in Africa and a very good restaurant...we want to stay one night...finally we stay three nights

Report Check-In

Nice campsite right at a tranquil beach, but still on the grass. The first night the campsite was full (big overlanding truck), so we got upgraded to a nice room (with same price). Then we moved to the campaite next day. Spent several nights in peace. The restaurant serves great food, we had pizzas. Ablutions would need an upgrade, they can’t really handle the pressure of e.g. an Overlanding truck. We left when another overlanding truck pulled in late in the evening (we had already decided to leave the next morning), then the campsite turned too busy. But we had a great time and the owner and staff were very friendly and accommodating. 15000mkw/pppn.

Report Check-In

Do to the official 44% devaluation of the Malawi Kwacha by the reserve bank of Malawi we have unfortunately had to increase our rates to MWK 15,000 PPPN for camping. This is based on the new official government exchange rate of 1700 MWK / 1USD.

Many thanks

Report Check-In

this is the most amazing place, so relaxing, the staff are so kind and friendly. I was definitely stay again. you park right on the grass next to the beach and its perfect!

Report Check-In

such a beautiful place close to the private beach. Very quite place, small but nice pool and restaurant as well. Friendly stuff and still 10000mwk/ppn

Report Check-In

Correction to previous entry! Should read only one toilet IN THE MENS SECTION of the ablutions.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot with grassy campsite right next to the beach, shade trees, power points and deck chairs on the sand. Pool at the lodge building with bar, restaurant and wifi. The only negative is that there is only one toilet in the campers ablutions which is not enough if a few overlanders are staying. Trish and Dan have plans to build a new ablution block for the campers to address this issue. Otherwise great place.

Ngala beach lodge ( Malawi)
A lodge that has it all!
Shaded, level, grassed camping areas with electric, water and very clean abolitions.
Spacious, well presented, comfortable rooms, with e-suite and private terraces.
Beautiful dining area offering Al La Carter menu, and amazing food, (everything we had was well cooked, well presented and very tasty)
The newly built bar and reception area offers comparable seating, very good, fast Wi-Fi , outside terrace area and a very well equipped bar.
There is a small swimming pool, and a lovely very clean sandy beach. (free Kayaks available upon request)
Trish and her staff are very friendly and extremely welcoming, greeting every guest as a vip.
This lodge supports the local community’s, orphans and African projects, donating funds for food and orphaned children. ( one of which we are personally involved in)
To sum it up:
This very well designed and presented Lodge is extremely peaceful, and very relaxing, I would definitely recommend this little piece of paradise ..

Absolutely superb place, great place we couldn’t recommend it more and hope to be back one day.
Amazing food, Paul a great host and owner lovely and very interested. Free kayaks to use on lake. Grassy camp spots right on beach. Bore water for drinking. Wee pool. Good wifi. Very well designed place with good hot showers

Beautiful campsite next to the lake with beach. Must visit.

Report Check-In

Perfect camping on lush grass, under shaded trees right on the beach with shared electricity & potable water near sites. Ablusions clean with hot showers. Pool, Restaurant & Bar overlooking the Lake. Professional and friendly staff.

Most magnificent sunrise and sunsets. Must visit place.

Report Check-In

Little piece of paradise at Lake Malawi with amazing sunsets. Good water pressure, hot showers, power points and water tap at the campsite.

Restaurant offers pretty decent, free WiFi. Also good quality food.

At the lake the you will be sure to meet John the craftsman. Very friendly and he can make anything in order for you if you’d like.

Price for camping is 10.000 kwacha pppn. Because we stayed a bit longer we were able to negotiate this down to 8000 pppn.

Report Check-In

Trish gave us the multiple night discount for camping at $7/pppn — arrived by bicycle which may have something to do with the discount. Either way only two dollars more than makuzi charged in 2012 (11 years ago). We stayed longer than anticipated like everyone else. Toast with a side of eggs (split between two people) is our delicious and reasonably priced breakfast suggestion. Recommended.

If we had to be really picky about something to improve it would maybe be that the pool was murky (but clean) and ablutions are a little run down, although they were still very clean with hot water, great pressure, flushing loos and toilet paper so that's really being fussy! This place is exactly as described below, just amazing and we could've easily stayed longer. The setting is amazing right on the most beautiful quiet and peaceful beach. Electricity, braai stands, wood, taps and lovely shady grassy areas. Free wifi in the bar and free kayaks (although there's been a croc around so no swimming in the lake!) and pool. Bar and restaurant are lovely and yes some meals aren't the cheapest but a lot of them are super reasonable, as are the drinks. Trish and Dan are so lovely and helpful, they treat every one of their guests like VIPs and all the staff around the lodge/camp do the same - all remember you by name and will do anything to help. Best service we've had so far on our trip as campers. Trish and Dan picked some vegetables up from the market for us on their supply run and we got a huge bag for 4500mk, so great! Laundry service 5000mk for a huge bag.
John at the beach sells very reasonably priced curios and is refreshing to Chat to, he's the only one allowed to sell there and no hassling at all - he even took us into the local town to the ATM and got us local prices for a few things at the market. Lovely guy, also does tours around the area or hikes etc.
$10pppn , highly recommend.

A very nice Campsite and very friendly owner. The Dinner is very good. ❤️❤️❤️.

Report Check-In

We read many positive reviews and had been excited of what we can expect when we arrive. We entered the gate and found paradise. The UK owners Dan and Trish and also the staff gave us a warm welcome. Dan showed us everything. Ablutions a bit old, but well maintained and clean. Hot water is coming from an electric boiler and it’s really hot and has an amazing pressure in the shower. All campsites are located on green flat grass, directly at the beach. A lot of shade by tall trees, two power spots if you need electricity, and a central water tap for everyone. The braai stands will be served with wood and coals for free if you need. Also using the kayaks is included. They take care of your peace and quietness, you won’t be disturbed at all by „guides“ or dealers. The restaurant is well organised, orders will be placed in advance not having any delay or waiting time. If you order your dinner for 19:00 you should be there 18:55 ordering your drinks as the food will be served on time. And it is delicious as well. On top of that Dan and Trish offer you to bring something from the market when they anyhow need to go there. It is a really nice service and we appreciated it. Honestly, this was the first Malawi location we had not been disturbed every 5 minutes by annoying guides, staff or other dealers. You can also have a chilled walk to the village. The people are very friendly and helpful, not asking for money at all. We can only recommend this beautiful place and we would come back anytime.

Report Check-In

Very nice camping on green grass under big trees. Right on the beach

Report Check-In

What a nice place to stay!!!! we wanted 3 nights, we stayed one week with the kids!
This place is gorgeous, grassy and shady campsites just at the beach. The ablutions are very clean, hot water, flushing toilets...
And what about the owner and staff!!! they are so lovely!!!! Trish the owner is very nice, helpful and she came to see all her clients everyday to Say Hello and good night and Ask if you need something.
We eat twice at the restaurant....basic Braai brekkies with chips and home-made pizzas on evening. They offered us a very Big and delicious chocolate ice cream and the kids loved it! Prices for beverages is OK, not overpriced.
They had an electricity failure during our stay, and their generator is far way from campsite, so you can't hear it. It was a really quiet and nice stay there!
I warmly recommand!!!

Report Check-In

You have to go! Wonderful place and totally worth driving for! The campsite is grassy and green and right by the perfectly clean sandy beach kept clean and nice by the staff. The showers are hot, you can fill your water tanks from the campsite tap. The highlight of the visit is arguably Dan and Trish, the accomodating and kind owners. They really made the stay great, and helped us with anything we could think of. The staff is very kind and polite, and the restaurant serves a variety of food, stocks all the drinks you could want, and is beautifully decorated. The swimming pool is pleasant, and surrounded by green grass even in dry season. You are overlooking the lake and mountains from the restaurant too!

A local, John, can take you on an informative village walk to have an authentic insight into Malawian village life, and he also sells nice African souvenirs.

It's the first time on our trip we stay 3 nights in one place, simply because it was the best campsite we have been to, and we felt at home.

Thank you Dan and Trish and we hope to see you again!

Report Check-In

Really nice place to stay! Beautiful beach and you are front row. Nice food at the restaurant and attentive staff and owners. They even helped us with some groceries. We stayed 3 nights because we liked it so much. Bathrooms could maybe have been cleaned better/more often (because of all the insects), but that's the only thing we could think of that can be improved. 10$pp now.

Report Check-In

This place is just heaven. The campground is well run with lots of old trees giving plenty of shade. The thick green grass continues straight to the beach, and I pitched my tent right by the edge, so when I woke up I would see the most beautiful sunrise over this incredible beach.
The owners Trish and Dan are incredibly nice and really make you feel welcome. They even helped me with the invitational letter to get the visa for Malawi.
The entire staff are so friendly and all felt like friends in the end. The shower has good pressure and lots of hot water. Borehole drinking water. Nice restaurant and bar with Wifi.
John offers tours in the village and does it well. He also sells curio.
The water is incredible and because of the movement, theres no Bilharzia in this area. I wanted to stay forever.

Report Check-In

We usually wild camp but this is one of the best paid camp sites we have stayed at in the world. Campers are treated like real guests and not like an after thought. Everything is well taken care of and staff well trained. Dan and Trish got us diesel when we couldn’t find it at multiple stations on the long drive down.

Magic. John sells some art on beach for good prices and I bought some. Walk out to the Ngala weekly market if it coincides with your stay - i think it is every Monday?

Oh and try the coffee!! Awesome coffee they brought from Mzuzu.

Report Check-In

This is the absolute centre of beauty and tranquility for camping!! We had the best time, largely because the staff and owners are so delightful… they bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. Lovely fresh simple food and some nice wines on the list. This place has our vote hands down, and we’ll definitely be back.

Report Check-In

Lovely beach side lodge and campsite. White sandy beach, shade grass for camping, clean absolutions and very comfortable lodge area.

Report Check-In

Such a lovely campsite right on a stunning beach. They really look after the place and the stay is very enjoyable. Blessings and Costings are amazing and they make sure you have the best stay. Kayaking is included and must definitely be done. 10 000MK pppn. We will 100% be back.

Report Check-In

Great place and the owners are extremely helpfull. I ran out of fuel because of a local fuel crisis. They arranged fuel within 1 day. Great calmfull vibe, you can buy fish from the local fisherman at the beach. Its amazing!

Report Check-In

Everything is great as noted by the previous travelers. Really suitable for big rigs. We stayed 9 nights.

Report Check-In

A really lovely lodge and campsite. Beautiful, lush grounds with a small infinity pool. Exceptional bar and restaurant area with views over Lake Malawi, serving a variety of drinks and nice menu. Free, fast WiFi. Campsite is set right next to the pristine beach with large grassy pitches, electric points, taps and bbq area. Ablutions are set back up some steps and have hot water. Dan and Trish are so welcoming and helpful, we were offered a chalet as there was no room at the campsite for the same price as camping, quite a treat! But would have been equally happy camping on the beach. Paul is also very helpful, great laundry service available too. 10000 kwa pppn. Highly recommend a stay here.

Report Check-In

I would put this with the Mushroom Farm as a highlight of Malawi. The beach is impressively beautiful and well maintained. I didn’t camp and took a hut as a treat. It was really lush. They have kayaks for free too.

The food is good in the restaurant and prices were okay. They have icecream and WiFi! They have free tea and very good coffee, for room occupants at least. The owners, Trish and Dan, and Paul, the bar man, are really helpful and friendly

Report Check-In

What a nice place! Relaxing, clean, nice people, and good food. The burger was big and tasty, which I really appreciate after a long cycling day

Report Check-In

Beautiful place with the nicest people. The open area, the camp site, the bar, the food, the rooms, the beach and the people are all amazing. Cannot recommend this highly enough. Will definitely be back.

We paid with a card.

Report Check-In

Came for 1 night, stayed for 4,because we absolutely loved it. The grassy camp site is beautiful and easily accessible even for big vehicles. The beach is very well maintained and the showers are the best we've had in a while. Hot with good water pressure. Trish and Dan are outstandingly friendly and passionate hosts, Paul and Blessings, the staff, are very friendly. Had dinner there on three nights and they were very creative in catering to us as vegetarians and it was delicious. Pizza Wednesdays are no longer a thing because the Pizza oven burnt down a few years ago, but if you're craving Pizza, they will make you Pizza in the regular oven. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Spent 4 brilliant days and nights here. Dan and Trish are excellent hosts who go out of their way to ensure everyone is settled and happy in the camp site. The bar and restaurant staff are excellent too. Well worth a stay over.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot as mentioned, Dan and Trish are just lovely owners. They did some groceries for us, we even did a bbq together. Also Paul and Melfort, the waiters, are so kind including all other staff. It is just amazing.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 2 nights. Campsite directly at the beach. Beautiful view over the lake. Restaurant and Bar brand new. Burgers and Sandwiches where awesome! Ablutions lack behind and could use some renovation. Water was hot and running. Regarding COVID and the lack of Tourism (and less income for all the places) we where happy to find this place open.

Report Check-In

We planned to camp on their grassy campsite along the beach.

When we were seeing you or tents the owner informed us that a government warning was issued for an cyclone in the south of Malawi. He offered us a lodge for the same price as camping. We are very thankful for this extra safety. The cyclone stayed in the south so nothing happened here.

The beach is clean and you can walk along the beach and villages. it's a nice and relaxed place.

Spent 4 nights at this wonderful place. Two nights in the campsite and were offered a room (for the same price) when the rains started. Very friendly owners and attentive staff. Showers were warm, there is borehole drinking water and beautiful beach area. Food at the restaurant is tasty, although a bit expensive for campers like us. Great place to slow down and enjoy the lake.

Report Check-In

A fantastic place with great people. We can confirm all what is said. Highly recommended. Don’t miss this spot.

Report Check-In

Wow, got this tip from Col.Thompson when we met in Dar. Thanks so much, this place is amazing.
Would definitely recommend not only due to the great facilities bur also the owners. Dan&Trish helped us with required host letter for the evisa: this is were you should go.

Report Check-In

Definitively the best experience we had so far ashore the Lake. Camping along the beach, on large grass area and under shady trees, very quiet place, nice swimming pool. The rebuilding of the bar/restaurant is not at all a nuisance. We had diner served at our campsite along the beach ! And most of all, the hosts, Trish & Dan are just wonderful ! Caring about their guests, giving useful information and telling nice stories about Malawi. It’s a 100% for this place.

Report Check-In

Fantastic place. We intended to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying for 2 weeks. Good food, good service comfortable rooms and a campsite on the beach. Dan and Trish the owners go out of their way to ensure a great stay.

Report Check-In

incredible beach side location with camping on the grass above. free kayaks that were practically new and perfect for a sunset trip on the calm waters. good ablutions and borehole water available. pool available although was a bit dirty when we were there. very welcoming couple who run the place who went out of their way to help some other guests who had an accident on their way home.

Report Check-In

Ngala Beach Campsite; a beautiful campsite on the beach/lakeside (7,500mkw pppn). As previously mentioned, beaches are not privately owned and are for the people. However, the visitors we encountered were enjoying a swim in the lake and weren’t rowdy. Patricia and her husband are running a wonderful place and their staff are accommodating and attentive. Their restaurant burnt down a year ago, however they are rebuilding (they seem to still be offering bar/restaurant services). Ablutions were clean with hot showers. Beautiful green lawns, big shaded trees and nice beach; a lovely spot to spend some time.

Report Check-In

What a wonderful spot. Patricia and Dan are perfect host’s, everything is clean and perfect. USD 10 pp, well worth the price. It is a place to stay more than 1 night.

Report Check-In

Spent 3 nights camping at this beautiful campsite on the grass meters from our private beach (unfortunately the government has passed the law that the beaches are for the people and no lodges can technically have private beaches).
the campgrounds were very neat and the ablutions clean, the staff were brilliant and attentative to our every need. We spent a couple of nights socializing with the wonderful owners Trish and Dan who even hosted us for a braai on the beach. They are busy building a new bar and restaurant area after it was burnt down a while ago. Excited to visit again and see all the new additions

Report Check-In

Just spent 3 wonderful nights here camping.... beautiful campsites on grass lots of shade, 15 m from the water with a private beach. Owners Dan and Trish are great, staff were all wonderful and eagerly tended to our needs and more. Clean ablutions, nice bar and restaurant..... food is excellent.
Well done guys..... a great place with awesome people.... Will definitely be back!!!

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot on the lake with a very friendly proprietor and staff. Campsite is in gardens with plenty of shade looking straight onto the beach. Didn’t see the ablutions but opened a banda for me to use. Unfortunately they had a fire recently and the main building/dining area has burned down but they have opened up a separate building adjacent and are offering a small menu (very tasty bean curry for $8).

Report Check-In

Very nice bicycle friendly campground very close to the beach. Little shops and small market on walking distance. Nice bar restaurant with good atmosphere. Everything very neat and clean. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
Because of the heavy rains we could even stay in the dorm. We stayed two days and were advised to cycle on to the south to Rafiki Safari camp. These two campsites are on the perfect cycling distance from each other.

Report Check-In

Beautiful campground, we stayed a few extra days because we loved it so much. Owners are super nice, English-Zimbabwean couple. Really feels like you’re staying at a fancy resort. Pool and bar area have an amazing view and staff are great

Report Check-In

Great grassy camping spot right by the beach, car/truck access under a tree shaded area. The pool and lodge bar have a spectacular view over the lake, garden p I’ll is lush and well maintained, hot showers, fresh drinking water Staff and owner were super friendly and helpful. Fantastic place to relax and refresh. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

A very nice and peaceful stop, we stayed a few extra days as a result. Big trees and thick grass in campsite. Ablutions are old but were clean and functional. Pictures show it off well. Restaurant is on the pricey side if wanting to eat there

Report Check-In

My opinion about this place seems different in respect. The place was sold apparently to new owner Malawian whom stays in Geneva Switzerland. This is an old camp site with huge trees. The Pizza special was at $14 per Pizza. very expensive never tried it. The men s toilets in camp ground was neglected so we used ladies. I reported the lights that was not working to manager, never fixed it. Lots of shade. Only stayed 1 night. Inever saw this pool on the photo, maybe by the rooms.

Report Check-In

New owners since Nov 18. Very nice place to stay, big trees, (warm) water, braai, resto, electra, light, private setting, not many trucks, and if: an upmarket truck.

Super nice!

Report Check-In

We stayed here for over a week during Christmas, 2 of us in a big rig. Dan and Trish, the owners for the last year, were perfect hosts and made our stay amazing.

This is one of the few lodges on the lake that is truly big rig friendly (we are 3.7m high), we had to cancel reservations at other lodges for access reasons (and our rig is relatively small).

Our pitch had electricity, drinking water, and a braii, as well as a great view of the beach. The lodge has a pool, bar, and good restaurant.

Dan and Trish made out stay, first by helping us get replacement propane saving us 1 days driving(they took our gas bottle on a supply run and refilled it, AND lent us one in the mean time), second by cooking great vegan options for us for dinner and Christmas lunch, and thirdly all the little things like getting cigarettes for us, saying hi every day, and staying on top of everything.

This was the longest we stayed anywhere in Africa and we found it hard to leave. Ablutions are fine, water hot, and generators to deal with power cuts. Nobody bothered us at all during our stay and other campers were good company. Lake is nice, sometimes hippos swimming in the morning but they don't come near the shore.

10 USD pppn for camping, worth it!

Report Check-In

Nice lodge indeed with a fancy bar and restaurant and nice and quiet campsite on thick grass right on the beach. I enjoyed the friendly welcome from the owners or managers and staff. The quietness is great as no staff is shouting at eachother at 6am and the village is far enough to avoid sounds of the music and roosters crowing! I decided to stay 2 nights and enjoy this perfectly peaceful place.

Report Check-In

Lovely shady campsite with power, but restaurant very expensive and staff not very friendly. Didn’t have a great feeling so we decided not to stay and stayed at Kachere Kastle up the road instead, which was stunning! $10pp to camp, $5 for basic cheese & tomato sandwich.

Report Check-In

As mentioned in earlier entry this place is generally very nice and well located. But the owners seem a mite hostile to the local kids walking on "their" beach which hinders friendly interaction with them. Also they need to install additional and much needed hot water capacity for the showers and remove old rusty braai (BBQ) drums from the campsite. As said earlier there is not much atmosphere to the place. Maybe getting more involved with the locals by the owners could be the answer.

Report Check-In

Nice camp and all as mentioned. They take these huge overland trucks, so be prepared to be invaded.
There is basically no food unless you order in advance, not even breakfast.
Everything is all nice and perfect, but somehow it lacks atmosphere

Report Check-In

Upscale resort. Well kept beach and campsite with braais, nice sunset views. Restaurant is very expensive ($12 for breakfast). Great shower pressure.

Report Check-In

Great location with lots of space just off beach on grass with trees for shade. Restaurant and bar with good food and large portions although a little pricey. Very slow wifi which seems to be most of Africa

Report Check-In

Even here 3-4 times. Quiet. Lovely camping on well tended grass, right next to beach. Good showers. Not many electrical points if you need hook-up. Lovely bar with long-reaching views. Good good but quite expensive (starter $5, main $10, desert $5). Outstanding sunrise views.

Report Check-In

Amazing lodge, very friendly staff and welcoming owners. On special request they made a birthday cake for my husband. Food is very tasty. Not cheap for Malawi but prices you can expect at such a nice place. Bar prices are reasonable. Nice grass for camping with the best views and very nice beach. Potable water, hot showers with excellent water pressure. One of the best places (or perhaps the best place) we stayed in Malawi. Would highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Lovely lodge with beach front campsite. Gorgeous views. One of the best camping spots on the lake that we've been to so far. WiFi is slow but what can you do. $10 pppn.

Nice place but bit expensive, camping 10 dollar, a meal 15 dollar (only mian course)
