Description

Lovely campsite just outside the Kafue NP, directly on the river. Nice and clean ablution block, hot showers, toilets and a kitchen area. Marc takes good care of his guests and is very helpful. Good place to visit the NP for a day or just to stretch your legs. Hippos are in the river, an elephant is a regular visitor to the campsite.

New access road (inconspicuous sign) from coordinates: -14.94718, 25.92048. The new driveway is suitable for wet conditions, i.e. also during the rainy season. However very narrow. Still doable with BigRig (8m, 2.4m, 3.8m).

Latest Check-Ins

Everything as described.
The road to the camp is a good all season track which is well signposted from the main road (it’s not on OSM)
Price 360 Kwacha for international visitors, 260 for locals.

Report Check-In

It's a nice place, midway Lusaka and Mongu. They charges us 360 KW pppn. A bit expensive but at the same time, there was hot water and a great view of the river Kafue and a perfect sundowner accompanied by the sounds of hippos.

Report Check-In

Very nice place but really overpriced specially in low season. 520k for 1night 2 people no drinking water no électricity. We have been in many other places with better services for much cheaper.

Report Check-In

Still a good overnight stop if travelling through from Liuwa. It’s 245kw per person which is similar to most places in Zambia and there’s hot showers and flushing loo and washing up area. Shade is not great but the river view is super with many hippo. Evans is the camp attendant and he is very friendly.

Report Check-In

We had a nice stay at Roy's Camp. Super clean ablutions with high pressure showers and hot water when we were there. Friendly welcome from staff and nice location on the river. Pricey but unfortunately the best deal in the area to be on the river, just outside the park so wildlife around but you don't pay park fees.

Report Check-In

Delightful camp outside the park. Camping on the river. Hot donkey boiler showers, clean ablutions. Wood available. Very neat camp. Lots of hippo activity at night. 500Kw for 2x pax pn.

Report Check-In

We have decided long ago to not give negative feedback about places we visit. We would rather not mention a place and move on. However, every once in a while we make an exception. This is such a place. The first thing wrong with Roy's is the price. We have camped in Zambia extensively and have gotten far better for almost half the price of Roy's. They charge 245 Kwacha pp. Wood costs 100Kw per bundel. Most campsites give it for free or ask 20Kw. There was no water in the showers. No BBQ places. No grass. No electricity or water on sites. This would normally be all OK, but for 245Kw pp it is just sad. But, it's location is fair - the river charming. Camp here if you like. We wouldn't again.

Report Check-In

245kw pppn kids half price (plus a tourist tax of 11kw)
Firewood for an extortionate 100kw!
Clean ablutions with plenty of hot water.
Well signposted from the main road. Outside the National park so no fees and. Good stop on the way to Mongu.
Large grassy area on the river banks, plenty of hippos visible and you can hear them throughout the night
Minimal road noise.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite on the river banks but feels rather sparse. Nothing spectacular. Over priced in comparison to other camps and for the current available facilities. Although they are building a restaurant and bar area and planting more trees that the elephants won't eat. Nice ablutions.

Report Check-In

Lovely campsite on the banks of the Kafue River with Hippo's aplenty and beautiful sunsets over the river.

Clean ablutions with hot showers and running water toilets. Peaceful personified.

Fee: Zk255 pppn camping.

Report Check-In

Großer Rasenplatz direkt am Kafue River mit sehr guter Anfahrt und bereits auf dem Weg viel Wildlife. Sehr netter Empfang und sofort einschüren für heiße Dusche!
245 Kwacha pPpN

Report Check-In

Nice, simple campsite right on the Kafue River. Hippos in the river, elephants on the opposite bank. Traffic can be heard depending on the wind. Totally quiet at night. New access road (inconspicuous sign) from coordinates: -14.94718, 25.92048. The new driveway is suitable for wet conditions, i.e. also during the rainy season. However very narrow. Still doable with BigRig (8m, 2.4m, 3.8m).

Report Check-In

Nice campsite on the river. Elephant in camp and heard lion and hyena during the night. Ablutions basic but at least flushing toilet. Pd ZKM345pppn. Park fees do not apply as outside park. Ok for one night stop.

Report Check-In

Great views over the river. We saw elephants, hippos and a crocodile 🐊. Good stop without paying park fees.

Report Check-In

good sight over the river where elephant drink and play. also the Safari area can be used for free. everything lives there too . so don't complain about the price it's definitely fair.

Report Check-In

Price 245 KW pP ridiculous for this basic campside. We have the feeling that every camp incl. park fees are ripping off tourists and visitors now after Corona. Let's see how the future of tourism will continue.

Report Check-In

Very friendly camp manager. The site itself is average and I’d say overpriced at 245 kwatcha pppn. It’s a bit untidy and run down, what with washing hanging up and big old blue dented plasti dustbins. They have tents too. Ablutions clean and showers hot, but no lights so shower when it’s light

Report Check-In

Nice campsite direct at the Kafue River. Basic but clean ablutions. Friendly staff. No electricity (even no lights in the ablution).
The new price is now 245 Kwacha pppn, what is overpriced in my opinion. First they wanted to charge us ridiculous 100 Kwacha for firewood, gave us this after a discussion for free (for the first night - if we would stay longer, we had to pay).

Report Check-In

Fantastic venue for a couple of nights stay. Campsite right on the Kafue river. Mark and his colleagues were extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Highly recommend! It‘s the best place outside of the Kafue NP. It‘s situated directly on the bank of the Kafue-River. A lot of space, very nice hot shower, very clean toilet and kitchen facilities. Mark and his staff are very helpful, friendly and obliging.

Report Check-In

Very basic campsite on the banks of the river (lots of hippos), overpriced considering it is not in the park BUT the staff were lovely and the showers hot. They included firewood and it was a very peaceful night - Recommended👍

Report Check-In

We saw two elephants in river, some hippoes, crocodile.
But no one was there, so we just spend there some time when we watched animals.
Camp looks nice, toilet with running water, showers, fire spits.
Near this spot are some others camping places.

Report Check-In

The camp was fantastic, especially after the lodge owner from an expensive camp in the park said That you could hear the trucks and bridge noice at night. @ 180 pp with level sites, hot showers and a great view of the river the site was perfect. We woke up to a group of Hippocampus play in the river, 20mt from our car. Unfortunately because of COVID we were the only campers at Roy’s that night.

Report Check-In

Very well kept, shady camp sites right along the Kafue River. Each site has a sink and braai spot. 180 kwatcha per adult per night. You can also hire already set up canvas tents with 2 beds in for 400 kwatcha per night. First load of fire wood free then 100 kwatcha per wheelbarrow load after that. You can hear some road noise from the camp site but not unbearable. Had ellies in the camp and hippos in the river in front of us. Hear hyena almost every night and lions a few nights. Loads of impala and puku around as well as wattled cranes not far from the camp sight. Super easy to get into the park for the day. If you want to go north into the park you have to go wake the gaurd up in his house if you heading in at 6.

Report Check-In

Great spot on the Kafue River! Mark received us with a smile and made sure that we had plenty firewood and that the boiler was up an running for a hot shower. The ablutions are very primitive, but functional. Hippos and crocs are plenty in close proximity and we even had elephants walking right past out campsite the next morning. Hyena and lions calls during the night. We paid kw180 pppn (Kids 10 and under 50%). Great stopover to / from Kafue NP / Liuwa Plains NP.

Report Check-In

Amazing grassy campsites with brilliant views to the Kafue river. Each campsite has a braai area and sink/tap. Firewood is for free and the camp care taker will light your fire each night.
Ablutions are clean with very hot showers.
Very easy access to the national park.
Paid 180k pppn. Well worth it.

Report Check-In

Very nice place directly at the river, access gravel road looks rainy-season-proof. There may be relatively little shade during the day when it is hot though (they are planting some trees). Hippos around, dark and quiet at night. Very good hot shower and ablutions, also good for doing the laundry...Price was 15 US $ ppn or 630 Kwacha for 2.

Report Check-In

Wonderful stop over and camp. Mark welcomed us with a big smile. Big rig friendly. Hot shower and flush toilet.

Report Check-In

Great Camping right next to the river. Hot water showers. Can do fishing, lodge supplies fire wood and you can buy charcoal.

No need to enter park, can watch hippos and elephants from across the Kafue river.

Report Check-In

They did a new road to the campsite so follow the sign, don't go on the old road next to the river. Now 15$. Mac is very friendly and like to fish. MTN signal is on and off

Report Check-In

Nice campsite next to the Kafue river. Mark is a great host. Lots of Hippo's. 130k pp.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite just outsite Kafue NP at the Kafue rivier. Warm welcome by Mark. Hot showers. Firewood for free.

Report Check-In

Decent spot, tons of hippo but nothing else seen.
Great ablutions and Mac supplied wood for our fire.

Report Check-In

My second stay at this camp. Excellent bathrooms and adequate braai stands right on the Kafue River make for a great overnight stop on way into Kafue. No park fees payable so also very good value for the area. Firewood provided for fires/braai. We had elephant in camp and lions (vocally) nearby!! Roy is very personable local guy (lives Lusaka) and camp is well run so they should be supported!!

Report Check-In

This is a great camp but VERY basic, as others have stated. There is no power and only a few water points with basic ablutions. Nevertheless, it's a lovely place because of
1) The stunning views of the River
2) Mark, the amazing camp manager
3) The location outside the park, which saves you a lot of money whilst still seeing a lot of wildlife

Report Check-In

The camp site is big open but basic. This was our most expensive campsite. No power which is ok. ZK 250 for 2 people. The rest like everybody explains

Report Check-In

Always good to be back. The river is nice and full and the hippo and crocs are here in their droves

Report Check-In

130kwacha pppn, nice simple campsite outside NP, nice bathrooms, hot showers, kitchen area, free firewood. Lots of hippos and elephant came through the camp at about 10pm.

Report Check-In

Basic but good campsite on the banks of Kafue river with beautiful view of the river. Mobile iron braai stands, several water points and fire pit. Nice and clean ablution block with thatched roof and hot water. Kitchen area for general use. We heard lions roaring, hyenas laughing and hippos barking. Also saw some elephant tracks on the road to the camp. Only downside is there are lots of deep hippo tracks on the camsite so a lot of bumps make the ground unlevel. Mark who welcomed us (and helped us get our car out of the mud) was great company and very helpful! He also knows a lot about the wildlife around the camp. When we visited in the wet season (28 March 2018), the road to the camp (1,5 km) was in very bad shape. Deep muddy tracks, so the camp was barely accessible. Mark told us they will start repair work after the last rains, so hopefully will improve soon. We paid KWZ 130 pppn, so great option outside Kafue National Park.

Report Check-In

Lovely Campsite just outside the Kafue NP, directly on the river. Nice and clean ablution block, hot showers, toilets and a kitchen area. Marc takes good care after his guests and is very helpful.
